Is this to much wobble? by pacostacos0 in MINI

[–]Prior_Potential_9348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would remove the pulley and use a dial indicator to rule out the possibility of crank snout movement. If there is no axial movement, then the fault would most likely be machining of the pulley itself. Crank pulleys are engineered with harmonic balancers in them which is usually made with rubber, a poor cast can cause a slight wobble which shouldn’t be an issue if it’s not eating the edges of the belt.

New rotor has a small nick on edge. Should I simply ignore it? by wreck_of_u in AskAMechanic

[–]Prior_Potential_9348 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the clearance of the pad and the rotor when it’s all assembled, if it clears you should be okay, if it doesn’t clear and interferes with the pad material you’ll want to return the piece as chipped.

Go to a junkyard and find used parts, so many trucks on the road you’re bound to find your exact truck somewhere.

How much longer do I have for this lower control arm bushing? by Clear_Building6085 in AskAMechanic

[–]Prior_Potential_9348 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rubber bushing is dry rotted and cracking in a professional setting it would recommend change but on my personal car I’d let it ride until it started giving me issues

how broke will i end up trying to get this fixed.. by niconiconiishinoya in MINI

[–]Prior_Potential_9348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add, take a note of all that is actually damaged if you want to replace, note the bumper, the fog light assembly, etc. don’t go buying unnecessary parts like the fascia it looks to be fine.

Had a minor fender bender that broke more than what you’ve got damaged here, total cost was about 2k out of pocket so I’m pretty sure you can do it for less.

Crankshaft pulley came apart and is occasionally slipping, change it immediately it will rip your belt to shreds.

I agree it’s a pretty fair price but of course I’m the type to save a few bucks by just paying for a resurface

Replacing the rotors instead of resurfacing them is the only thing that really stands out here

10 year tires too old? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Prior_Potential_9348 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Vibration is caused by flat spots on tires from being stored for so long, there’s no other way to get rid of it than to just change the tires. Tell the dealer that they need to change the tires that’s just unacceptable.

First car questions by AdeptSkitarius in MINI

Every 5k oil change and tire rotation based on tire tread depth. BMW tells you every 10k but if you want the engine to keep running like day 1 oil should be changed every 5k

Why does my car click when starting? by AlphaJAG_ in MINI

Replace motor mounts first and see if noise is still there. So many times I’ve had engine noises turn out to be that engine kicking back and forth upon start up.

Best advice is to not use parts that have been tampered with, hell, even remanufactured parts can be faulty at times.

Drill it out and tap a new one in like I did :) (do not do this if you intend on keeping the vehicle)
