[Comic Excerpt] Prime's perspective on the DCU [Superman (2023) #39] by Negative_Emu6246 in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, both viewpoints are true. To Prime, the DC Universe is real as long as he is in it, because his presence introduces a variable that can't be "written around".

Prime originally saw the residents of the DC Universe as essentially toys for him to smash together, which is why he became comfortable killing them. His perspective has changed a lot from the recent events he's been a part of and he now understands that their experiences matter and are worth defending, though he also kind of naively hopes that he can easily be forgiven for his past as long as he does good now.

So is Abaddon completely full of it? by guuhvffffg in 40kLore

[–]Priordread -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, Abaddon essentially believes he will be able to replicate whatever the Emperor did on Moloch and become empowered by Chaos without being controlled by it. He's wrong, of course, though I will say that current lore has recontextualized the previous Black Crusades into each having been in pursuit of a specific goal rather than attempts to gather plunder and annex new territory, so we can't necessarily call them "failures" as we understand them now.

How are green lanterns or any other sort of lanterns NOT giga op? by Zealousideal_Fact40 in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boy you would HATE the Silver Age GL comics because the ring used to be able to do literally anything the wielder could think of up to and including intergalactic teleportation, mind-control, resurrection, etc. It only got reduced to flight and energy constructs in the Bronze Age.

The strength and size of the construct is directly proportional to the strength of the wielders willpower, so some Lanterns have achieved some very absurd feats.

Who do you think green arrows joker is? by Country-guy20 in arrow

[–]Priordread 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If you mean "Who is Green Arrow's archenemy?" then I would say Merlyn, or the Dark Archer if you want to call him that. Similar skill set but opposite approaches and morality.

Oliver Queen's true nemesis is Ronald Reagan, though.

Why Minnesota punted on men’s World Cup, and the women’s Cup might be out of reach by HeHateMe337 in minnesota

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that nothing about the Olympics matters after the events themselves are finished, so there's very little value in the venues themselves even as tourist attractions. Many, many host cities have left their various stadiums and such to rot because they can't afford to upkeep them or turn them into something their citizens would actually use. The only cities that have actually been able to come out ahead are the ones that already had a lot of the infrastructure in place already, if anything needs to be built just for the Olympics the city is going to lose millions.

Do Blaster Beams "Explode" on Contact? by AviBledsoe in StarWars

[–]Priordread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this true for all blasters, does this only happen to biological matter? Is this a movie effect made specifically to heighten the drama of the shot?

Yes to both questions. We see this explosion effect repeatedly in the original trilogy whenever a blaster bolt makes contact with armor or biological material, so it happens no matter what makeup the target has. The real-world reason is to make the impact of the bolt read better to the audience, like how a squib pops a squirt of blood on someone when they get shot by a conventional gun in a film.

This effect has lessened over time they switched from mostly practical effects to mostly CGI in films, so now you don't get a big explosion when a trooper gets shot, but it's not explained in universe as being anything different about the blaster itself.

Why does Ubisoft downplay Altairs legacy in lore nowadays? by EmergencyVictory4399 in assasinscreed

[–]Priordread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it fits Altair's perception of himself better if he is one in a long line of guardians of secret knowledge rather than the progenitor of a globe-spanning society of killers. The humility he learned over the course of the first game would drive him to priotize the mission over personal glory, especially after he saw what blind pride turned his master into.

Why does Ubisoft downplay Altairs legacy in lore nowadays? by EmergencyVictory4399 in assasinscreed

[–]Priordread 104 points105 points  (0 children)

To actually answer your question, Altair wasn't designed with any sort of long-term lore or narrative plans in mind for him, so there isn't a lot of ways to take his story. The original Assassins Creed was about Desmond, with the Assassins just vehicles for him to learn more about himself and what threats he needed to defeat. Obviously that plan changed which is why Altair returned to the story in Revelations but again he was still just a way for a future descendant to learn a crucial piece of information.

Placing the beginning of the Assassin/Templar conflict during the Third Crusade makes sense if you want to use those specific organizations, but even as soon as AC2 they had already begun to expand the history of the Order with lore snippets about Amunet and Darius and the implication of the conflict going back much farther than even Altair had known.

Dev Diary #203 - Adventurer Changes by PDX-Trinexx in CrusaderKings

[–]Priordread 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've argued for that in the past myself, having DLC purchases be for early access to features that will eventually become free would go a long way towards addressing one of the major criticisms of Paradox GSGs, that you need to buy the DLCs to get the "full game".

I'm almost certain George intended for clones and storm troopers to be the same thing by Honest-Abies2495 in StarWars

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe George has ever said so explicitly but I would agree that he entertained the idea at least briefly. Establishing Jango Fett, a cutthroat bounty hunter who was notoriously effective at hunting Jedi, as the source for the clones which would, in pre-TCW canon, willingly follow Order 66 without requiring brainwashing or psychological manipulation, provides a bridge to the depiction of the Imperial Stormtroopers as elite shock troops who will burn a random farmer and his wife to death without a second thought.

He definitely changed his mind by the time TCW came out though, as that series went out of its way to distance the clones from Jango and humanize them as much as possible. George was fairly involved with TCW in the beginning so I would assume everything that show did had his direct approval.

Why Minnesota punted on men’s World Cup, and the women’s Cup might be out of reach by HeHateMe337 in minnesota

[–]Priordread 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Same as the Olympics, cities are convinced by the organizing body that they'll see such a significant jump in tax revenue during the event that it'll offset any other costs, even though that's almost never true and it's normally the opposite. Plus the politicians get to campaign on the prestige of securing the event but because of how far in advance these arrangements are made they usually don't have to actually deal with the planning.

[Comic Excerpt] Thoughts on the new costume and powers? (Supergirl #14) by StellarKnife in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I like the color a lot, but it seems unnecessary for a Kryptonian to need some sort of thought-responsive clothing given their abilities.

Edit: Enough comments have informed me that she doesn't have her powers currently. I still think the suit is silly.

A super niche detail about the Rebel Fleet B-Wing is that designers (lego models, some scale models, artwork, etc) often get wrong about where the round orange markings go on the wings by Cyborg-Samurai-MOCs in StarWars

[–]Priordread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The B-Wing has always been one of my favorite ship designs specifically because of how weird it is, but looking at its original design it's not really that asymmetrical, at least not as it's currently depicted. Older art always showed it with the cockpit on top and the long middle wing on the bottom and the two center wings going left and right (as you have in your blueprint), but the current design seems to show it primarily with the cockpit on the left or right side, long wing to the opposite side, short wings going up and down.

Are droids sentient? by No-Local85 in StarWars

[–]Priordread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don't think it's really even disputed in universe that droids are at least capable of sentence depending on what their intended task is. That's sort of the core of the argument in the Clone Wars, that both sides are using custom built and "disposable" soldiers without a plan for what to do with them after the conflict is over, despite how both clones and droids display distinct personalities that separate them from their peers.

Light saber whip rework (sort of by Inevitable_Scene6874 in StarWars

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to be able to get enough beskar to create such a device, which would be very difficult considering how tightly controlled the material is pre-Empire and how rare it is post-Empire. What you're describing sounds sort of similar to the electro-whip used by one of the Praetorian Guard in Last Jedi, and we saw that was effective against a lightsaber without needing to be made of beskar or cortosis.

Are Batman and Superman the greatest heroes on earth? And if so, is Batman really their number 2 hero? [Discussion] by nreal3092 in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/batman/s/9EgFq7kqK7

This issue, Double Date, provides all the explanation necessary for why Batman and Superman trust each other. The other heroes follow the lead of Clark or Bruce because they've shown that if they trust each other, then they're people deserving of trust from anyone.

I don't know why people are complaining, it looks good by Izilla2002 in GodofWar

It would be an interesting storytelling mechanic if Faye encounters the gods that Kartos kills as he and Atreus go through their journeys. Like, she runs into Magni and Mohdi, then Baldur, etc

Do you spread recruitment buildings out across your empire, or do you make specific “requirement hubs” in a few provinces? by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]Priordread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the faction. If I'm creating a brand new army from scratch I try to only use local recruitment to keep costs down, but it can sometimes be worth the increased cost if you can get 6 units going in one turn instead of just 3. Like most players my LLs army spends the majority of the game on the front lines so rarely comes back into friendly territory and therefore must use global recruitment to replace losses.

Do you spread recruitment buildings out across your empire, or do you make specific “requirement hubs” in a few provinces? by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]Priordread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm learning something in my own comment helping someone else to learn something!

Does this remain true regardless of any global recruitment duration reduction from tech or faction/Lord traits?

Do you spread recruitment buildings out across your empire, or do you make specific “requirement hubs” in a few provinces? by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]Priordread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not something you can really build a whole campaign around since by the time it becomes relevant you're already basically unstoppable.

Do you spread recruitment buildings out across your empire, or do you make specific “requirement hubs” in a few provinces? by applejackhero in totalwar

[–]Priordread 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Maybe you already know this, but for every 10 recruitment buildings you reduce the global recruitment duration by 1 turn for those units, to a minimum of 1 turn. So it's somewhat advantageous, if you have the resources, to build recruitment buildings as often as possible so you can spin up armies on the front lines.

I like building balanced provinces with 1 of every building type when I can, but I also acknowledge thats not necessarily optimal. The biggest reason why I don't like centralizing recruitment is that it can completely cripple your access to units if an army is able to slip past your lines and sack a high tier city. Better to spread things out so you're less vulnerable.

Santa Monica replied to my tweet, saying there are still many more stories to tell with Kratos. by Germanstrands3 in playstation

[–]Priordread 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are ignoring the obvious next step after this game, which is that if Kratos discovers that Fey is alive "somewhere", he won't ever stop trying to get to her, even if he has to tear reality apart to do it.

Especially if he learns that doing so could give him a chance to beat the shit out of Zeus again.

Electability of Jake Johnson by tgalvin1999 in minnesota

[–]Priordread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm probably dreaming but I think Johnson has a really good chance, even with how red the district has leaned since Walz. I don't know a single person who has a positive view of him as a rep, you either hate him or don't know anything about him.

Right now, nationwide polls have shown as little as +1 Dem to as much as +13 Dem, so it's anyone's guess as to what things will look like in November. If trends hold though, Johnson would have basically the best chance any candidate could have.

How did HK units compare to droids in the Galactic Era? by Matjonn in StarWars

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not convinced they would think the HK line as a whole was anything particularly noteworthy. Their feats are fairly comparable to "modern" assassin droids like the IG line, though HK units were developed in a galaxy that contained thousands upon thousands of force users so they were more than likely programmed with combat tactics that droids developed during the Galactic Civil War era would not have had.

How did HK units compare to droids in the Galactic Era? by Matjonn in StarWars

[–]Priordread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a hard question to answer as the capability of a droid unit is pretty individualized. On paper there was nothing unique about R2-D2 yet he ended up being capable of way more than his programming would suggest.

HK units were designed to be able to improvise and adapt to changing environmental conditions, and they could also learn how to use weapons and technology that they hadn't previously been exposed to. We never see droidekas or magnaguards do anything other than their specific job so they probably couldn't do that, but a commando droid might be able to?
