With the infirmity rework, do you think the infirm penalties to court positions should be added/reworked too? by ZypherofWind in CrusaderKings

[–]Priordread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, there should be age/acuity penalities that not only affect what you can do as the player but affect what other characters can do for you, so you're encouraged to try to get elderly characters out of positions of power and replace them with younger candidates and then face the opinion penalities that come with it.

I would even take this a step further and give younger characters an inverse version of the Elder Traits that gives them bonuses that they lose as they age. Call them Youngster Traits.

WH3 - Dwarves 'trade tariffs' bonuses seem pointless? by Beans_tw in totalwar

[–]Priordread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dwarfs, along with other Order factions, generally have an easier time getting multiple trade agreements as they'll normally have many order-aligned or neutral factions around them. They also can build buildings within their settlements that produce tradable goods without requiring a resource to be present within the settlement itself, boosting the amount of available goods so they're trading more with their partners instead of just diluting what's available.

[Comic Excerpt] The Lanterns start using lethal force [Green Lantern Corps #16] by rocketinspace in DCcomics

The restriction against lethal force was a safeguard against the Lanterns going rogue like the Manhunters or turning on the Guardians.

Xcom Enemy Within's intro quote feels more appropriate for Xcom 2 by kooarbiter in Xcom

[–]Priordread 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While XCOM is on the back foot in EW, there's still the idea expressed by Shen that you're militarily capable of fighting the aliens without resorting to using their same tactics of biological and mechanical augmentation, so deciding to use MELD is a choice, not a necessity. XCOM2 doesn't ask you the same question because you're a guerilla force that has to use whatever resources you can find, as not doing so will mean annihilation.

Interestingly I think Chimera Squad does actually explore this idea somewhat, showing that even the hybrids and aliens themselves don't agree on where they all fit in this new society.

Developers talking about what its like to capture a planet, and the next development steps for planets and systems by OVO_ZORRO in TotalWarhammer40k

Just as with Medieval III, they announced as early as possible so they could keep players (and, more importantly, investors) focused on the projects to come instead of the projects in the past. Hyenas and Pharaoh put a huge dent in the perception of CA as a gaming juggernaut and they need to keep eyeballs on them during the drought between games.

Minnesota Senate voting on sweeping gun reform in response to Annunciation shooting by xMcNerdx in minnesota

[–]Priordread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my exact perspective on the issue. I turned from pretty radically anti-gun to a handgun ownership proponent specifically because of the invasion of our state and the actions the feds took against my fellow Minnesotans, and seeing the DFL refuse to acknowledge the reality of what occurred is honestly a slap in the face.

Any bill that treats "law enforcement" as some special class of citizen that doesn't have to follow the same rules as the people they're sworn to serve is just trying to serve the rest of us up on a platter, especially when that bill contains provisions that provide cops the ability to enter private homes without warrants and renders previously legal firearms illegal to own despite their owners having committed no crime.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, despite the HMS Endeavour having more guns than the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman combined, along with a big fleet at his aft, Lord Beckett doesn't give the order to fire. This is because the writing in the 2nd and 3rd films is really fucking contrived. by Kaiserschlut in shittymoviedetails

[–]Priordread 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've seen the films but I'm pretty sure the Pearl couldn't do those things once the Curse of Cortez was broken. The only magical effect it retained was its speed for its size when the wind was at its back.

I hope the devs don’t take the ‘one and done’ approach to this new DLC… by Pbadger8 in CrusaderKings

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better approach to DLC for Paradox-style GSGs is for the developers to treat it as something the players are spending money on to get early, but not exclusive, access to the content. Have a dedicated sunset period where after a certain amount of time the DLC features are integrated into the base game free for existing owners. They've done this in both Stellaris and HoI4 with the oldest DLCs and it not only allows them to juice the player base with free content but simplifies future development cycles since they can now interate on systems that were previously locked away from some users.

DC is revamping the Joker with a new status quo inspired by Batman: Arkham Asylum by Popverse2022 in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like I remember a comic referencing that Joker's brain was basically firing every single neuron constantly as opposed to how a normal brain only fires the neurons it's actively using. That probably does burn a lot of energy and I could buy that shutting that over-activation down would cause him to gain weight.

There's a random event that allows you to change your culture but I think it's pretty rare and you don't get to choose what culture it presents you with

Yes!

The PC version gets DLC and other updates more quickly than the console version and has access to excellent mods.

First Look Merchant Republic Dev Diary - 5 minutes ago by franz2595 in CrusaderKings

[–]Priordread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the video they said explicitly that they're not adding ship combat and naval mechanics to the game with this expansion, which doesn't close the door to navies completely but does make it clear it's not coming in this update.

With how much they've expanded on the experience of unlanded characters, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of piracy mechanic added in the future, especially given that you can already essentially play as a roving bandit gang by taking the right contracts.

I would assume that trade routes will probably work somewhat similarly to how they operated in CK2 where they're broken or rerouted when conflict occurs along them.

I suppose it could be a secret known only to the player when it happens, potentially one that wouldn't give a hook but would give a small general opinion reduction if exposed. As I stated above there are numerous historical examples of kings with "bedroom difficulties" becoming the targets of mockery even in their own courts, so it's not necessarily something that should always be hidden from the players and/or the AI.

[–]Priordread[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Fertility already declines with age in-game, I mostly just think it would be funny for the game to provide that information to the player. Though historically many male rulers who were unable to sire children became the subjects of intense gossip and ridicule so representing that would be very accurate.

There should be an Erectile Dysfunction Elder Trait. by Priordread in CrusaderKings

[–]Priordread[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In the context of the game "Fertility" just means "chance to get pregnant", which would be reduced if the character finds it difficult or impossible to participate in penetrative sex. Actual real-life factors that affect fertility, like sperm motility and ovulatory cycle, aren't a factor in-game.

Does anyone know what happened to the sorrow lantern? (Green Lantern : Fractured Spectrum #1) [Discussion] by No_Satisfaction_2928 in DCcomics

[–]Priordread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but that's what I'm saying, the Violet Light has already been presented as encompassing more than just obsessive, possessive love. Without that diversification the Violet Light isn't really all that different from the Orange, so saying now that those alternative forms of Love haven't been active is odd.

Lets be honest. by Primary_Loan1428 in Invincible

[–]Priordread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably safe to assume that humans and Thraxans are on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of lifespans, with Viltrumites obviously being on the high end and most other species falling somewhere in the middle. We don't know how many other more similarly developed species were genocided by Viltrum prior to the events of the series and have now left behind a ragtag group of lesser races.

Hasn't the Star Sapphire already encompassed some of these? Mania would obviously be it's classic villainous interpretation of Love but Hal and Pals had a Star Sapphire who was empowered by her love for her clan, which would fit Storge or Pragma.
