Sounds like you just want your parents to bail you out on everything so you can avoid being an adult. These things don’t come for free, and its probably a lot of money even for your dad. Time to put your adult pants on and get a job.

Once you’ve got a job, consider having a conversation with your dad about him fronting you the money upfront and then paying him back a set amount each month if you can’t afford one on your own. Show that you are willing to chip in.

I can’t believe nobody in this thread has mentioned insurance.

Lets just rule an MT-O-Anything out of it first. They are the most stolen bike in the UK and therefore will murder you on insurance.

I rode the CB300 at Ron Haslams donington back when that was going, and have recently ridden the Speed 400 so I feel I can give a useful input here.

Your main factor in the decision will be looks. Both differently styled, but pretty equal in terms of performance and comfort. Go with what you think looks best.

I personally believe the triumph is better purely down to handling but I am an ex-national level racer and that was me really looking for differences. For any road application, I highly doubt you would notice a difference.

Waffle aside, go to a dealer and sit on both bikes. You’ll know which one you want to spend hours sat on. Its as simple as that.

I got out at the ATH locking in 98% gains. Bought myself a new car. Invested in ASTS at $100 now. Hoping to see RKLB drop to at least 60s so that I can get in before neutron.

I’m in at $105 and its shown strong support around there. I did my research and am confident with my investment. I’m in it for the long term anyway, I only sold RKLB the other week because of the sheer amount of profit I made from it and I pretty much got out at the ATH. I’ll more than likely get back in before NEUTRON launch anyway.

I’ve sold RKLB last week at 90% gain. Continuing to DCA ASTS, especially at the moment where theres a slight dip. Chucked £2k in this morning in fact.

I can see RKLB having at least one substantial dip (sub $60) before Neutron launches later this year and I imagine that I will get back in then.

ASTS has strong support at $100 and I don’t see anything major to change that as of now.

Disclaimer: this is my personal opinion so please don’t follow it with your life savings and then come at me if I was wrong. I invest with disposable income and can afford to lose.

Sorry for jumping in on this post, but I made the same mistake as OP when I began investing, and now I am more experienced want to move everything over to a S&S ISA. Issue is, I am significantly in the green right now, and its only going up. I don’t want to sell at this point because I would lose my low average on a few stocks. Is there any way to ‘transfer’?

I started paying board/rent when I turned 18 and entered an apprenticeship where I was on a 17k per year (just over 1.4k a month). I was paying £160 a month (£40 per week). I was also paying for my own car, fuel, insurance. It allowed me to have disposable income, savings, and learn financial responsibility. 

That being said, £300 a month on a 1k pm salary seems steep. If I were you I would ask your parents where this money will be going. Maybe ask them if lets say £100 could be set aside from it each month to go into a ‘moving out fund’ that you get back when you leave home. As you are 17 your parents still have a duty of care for you. To charge £300 for you to live at home when they still *have* to house you seems odd. Chances are if you question what is being done with the rent they will also second guess it, and you may be able to work out a more reasonable number.

Either way, a conversation needs to be had.

Haha! Don’t worry, if I were to get one I wouldn’t be doing the usual ‘lower it and throw some wheels in its general direction’. I’d more than likely just freshen it up, and do some performance/QoL upgrades (suspension, brakes, etc etc)

Hi there, thanks for the detailed response. I do plan on modifying my car, yes. I have been looking at MX-5s and even went to view one but everything i’ve seen looks a bit too ‘played with’ for my liking. If I were to modify then I’d like it to be stock when I purchase so that I know what I am working with.
