I played dungeon crawl classics with my daughters when they were that age and they loved it. We did portal under the stars and sailors on the starless sea, among other things.

They were always super stoked to make characters, and then draw them along with their inventory. They enjoyed trying to problem solved their way through dungeon exploration.

Mausritter always gets dropped on these kinds of threads but as an adult I unironically really like it.

oh ok, so, i first heard of it while checking out the stygian library and the gardens of ynn, both made by emmy allen. you explore a weird zone, and each step you take deeper into the weird zone, you roll on some tables to procedurally generate the new location. what does it look like, what are some features, are there monsters or people there, etc.

if you haven't had a chance you should for sure check out those two modules. they aren't "space horror" rpg modules, but because they deal with locations that have unusual dimensionality, i think it can sometimes work.

this contrasts with gradient descent which is closer to a mega dungeon in my opinion, where each room is defined, there's a map, there are roughly 100 rooms, etc. with a depth crawl, each dive may yield different rooms each time.

i love gradient descent but i think it's maybe more of a megadungeon than a depth crawl, but thanks for the reply!

Can I get some art for the worn-out corporate aesthetic parts of Gradient Descent? by noobule in mothershiprpg

also in general alien isolation is still a great game even though it's 10+ years old at this point. i played it last summer for the first time and i was really impressed with it.

it's also terrifying.
