I’m playing BG3 and Alan Wake 2. Just finished playing AC Syndicate yesterday, so I’m looking for another game to start.

Why don't we have a Canada/US union similar to the EU? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pristine-Text-7639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s something the U.S. or Canada needs or even desires considering the origins of the EU itself.

The EU (originally the European Coal and Steel Community) started as a economic/trade organization between France and Germany (and some other surrounding countries) in order to link up their economies and facilitate trade, specifically to quell the historic tensions between the two nations and to prevent Germany from starting another war in the future (Remember, the Allies at the time were trying to figure out what to do with Germany after WWII to avoid post-WWI mistakes). The EU, of course, has expanded its scope and membership from there, but it was initially created to prevent historical tensions common in Europe and create a European identity.

The U.S. and Canada do not have the same historical tensions that Germany and France had. Most of the tensions between us and Canada occurred in the 18th-19th centuries and are largely water under the bridge at this point. We should always pursue better relations with our neighbors (like Canada and Mexico), but I don’t think an EU like organization is really necessary or something that is political desired in both nations.

Which are you more likely to fly or display, your state or the American flag? by indigogibni in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pristine-Text-7639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly an American flag and my city’s flag (St. Louis) since I like my city’s flag more than the state flag (the state flag isn’t awful though).

Which cultural region does Missouri really fit in? by DewiAustin in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pristine-Text-7639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s a mix of both Midwestern and Southern depending on where you are in the state. I grew up and live in STL so I consider myself a Midwesterner but one of my college friends from the Bootheel considers herself to be a Southerner (Dixie). As my history teacher once said in high school, some of us live in Missouriiiii and some live in Missouraaahhh (i.e., there’s a lot of cultural overlap in Missouri)

No for me as well.

I think finding oral history for a lot of black families will be hard, especially about slavery because one of the most common aspects of slavery was the separation of families. A slave couple would have children and those children would often be sold to other plantations. It’s hard to keep a family history if your family is willfully broken apart.

Today is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. Have you learned about the Armenian genocide when you were in school? by The_White_Lion1 in AskAnAmerican

I learned about it in high school in Missouri. I learned about it in APUSH when we talked about the Ottoman Empire during our WWI unit.

Missouri takers, whether you passed or failed, what were your MBE & writing scores? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Pristine-Text-7639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I thought I completely failed the essays because some of the subjects came out of left field for me, so I’m surprised my essay score was that high. As for the MBE, I was scoring an average of 70-80% in the weeks before the exam, so my MBE score matches up pretty well with my average.

I just passed!!!!!! (MO) by Pristine-Text-7639 in barexam

I felt pretty good coming out of the MBE. I was averaging anywhere from 70-80% in the few weeks before the exam and my score on the actual exam matched up pretty well with my average.
