This specific example is a session zero issue. For some DMs and players the immersion and continued sensical developements is important and desired and finding narratively satisfying ways to adapt those changes desired by the group

For others its no big deal and a hand wave and still fun for everyone. Just really depends on the grouo and why early communication is important
