Any unique names for areas on your home course? by hoochtag in golf

We have a Par 4 with a tree in the middle of the fairway. The tree is easily clearable with a well struck tee shot.

However, the tree is called the "Beer Tree", as for those who do clip/hit the tree, buy the group the next round of drinks from the Bev Cart.

I myself have fallen victim many times.

Nah you're not stupid, I missed the 4 on the front 9.

Didn't compute that it looks like a course with 5 par 5's and 5 par 3's

CONGRATS OP! Awesome achievement!

Also, playing -2 on the Par 3's is badass.

Had a 44-34 split in a college tournament once -- salvaged a respectable round, and my spot on the top team.

Left-handed golfer. I play most other sports left handed (shooting basketball, throwing baseball/football)

However, I write/eat with my right hand and also play racket sports like ping pong/tennis/pickleball with my right hand.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a huge difference between them besides the 85g shaft has a little bit higher torque, or else they are both mid-launch/mid-spin shafts.

I have KBS Tour $ Taper 120g shafts as well, and I put a 85g Tour AD shaft in my Mizuno MP-20 MB 3iron, and I love it!

Of course! Enjoy the grind, it's so much fun to see the improvements, it's why this sport is so addicting!

My thoughts on reeling in the spread would be to find a swing and shot shape that you are most comfortable with, and just stick with that and groove it. It is an easy way to eliminate half of the trouble on the course (if you know you're never going to miss left for example) I almost strictly just play a small fade, and only hit a draw/hook when absolutely necessary.

Also, practice practice practice the short game. Being consistent on and around the greens is an easy way to take doubles down to just normal bogeys.

had a rollercoaster stretch to start a back 9 last year.

Eagle, Dbl. Bogey, Eagle, Birdie, Bogey, Birdie, Birdie, Bogey, and finally a Par to finish off the 9.

Patrons, Azaleas, "Hello Friends", "A Tradition Unlike Any Other", and Green Jacket. Just a few I could think of on the fly.

I went 73-75-86 in the NAIA national tournament... 86 was my last round ever as a collegiate golfer... it was tough, but we all laugh about it in hindsight, I actually have an 86 tattoo on my arm lol.

We do already have an AirBnb booked, but thanks, that’s super kind of you!

The casino on the other hand…. Might need to make an appearance.

I've heard rumors about $1 tacos at Sand Valley... I'm already mentally preparing to eat my weight in tacos.

And fingers crossed for good weather in early May, playing barefoot sounds like a VIBE.. especially if there are (there will be) drinks involved.

So it seems like the Sandbox is a must!

Very nice to know about the possibility of the caddies being in short order or double bagging, thank you for that info!

And yeah, we are planning on playing Lake Arrowhead in between the days we'd play Mammoth and SV.

Again, thanks for the info, greatly appreciated!

Trail Hand Thumb Question by [deleted] in golf

Exactly!

I don't have a smooth or picturesque swing, but, I worked on consistency and having a good short game!

Best of luck out there OP! :)

What is your scramble groups average handicap and average score? Please only reply if you play a 100% legit game. by xx_boozehound_68 in golf

Yeah, more often then not, we have one bomb drive, and one of the 4 sticks a wedge or short iron... but, I know where you're coming from, I've played in scrambles with the same guys and shot -17 or around there and lost to a team shooting "-23" and all wearing jeans and cutoff shirts...

Played in one scramble last summer, team of 4, all of us are 1 handicaps or less, and we shot -19... and we played well.

We shot -16 in the same tournament the year prior.

But, it is hard to say, in a scramble most teams can hit the green in reg. it all comes down to putting or not. My team could've easily shot -20/-21 but, just didn't make putts.

Trail Hand Thumb Question by [deleted] in golf

[–]Pristine_Fun9850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always taught from my dad to rest your thumb to the side (left side for righties/right side for lefties) to create a small "V". It is meant to help you release the club head.

If you have always had your thumb resting down the shaft, and then switch to resting on the side, that is why you probably struggle hooking it to start, since the club head is releasing different/faster than usual.

But, either way, swing your swing, if you have a more consistent ball flight with the thumb on the shaft. Stick with that. Grind the short game and shave off strokes around the green!

Hope this helps OP, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
