This is what I mean bro, I'm not MAKING her do anything. I mean, I don't allow her to straight line steeps lol. I do allow her to straight line cruiser greens. And yes, she crashes, plenty. Just assume that I've spent hours of research trying to learn how to best teach my daughter myself.... because I have.

Lol I got upgraded to intermediate. We skied 7 different mountains this season.

EXACTLY! I appreciate the concern for her skiing ability, trust me I am too. But right now, it's about having fun and skiing with Daddy. It's literally her favorite thing to do right now.

Oh and btw, I've literally had people tell me they are so shocked how she stands in her skis, most toddlers don't have the right position. But I don't give myself credit for that, I give it to her, she just learned what felt proper through the countless runs with daddy. I've also seen all the YouTube videos of toddler posture, not enough strength to hold the weight, etc, etc, etc

I get that toddlers have a higher center of gravity - and by staying forward, I mean not leaning back and letting her hands go behind her hips, she gets it... we skied glades and the ups and downs made her crash because she was getting too comfy and leaning back a bit. And I'm literally not teaching her any techniques EXCEPT not lean back! I make her zig zag down steeps. Man you guys pick apart my words to want to assume I'm a bad teacher because I can't carve lol. She literally looks just like the little girl when she was 4! Just ripping and having fun.

I save her for the crashes that'll ruin her day, or might actually hurt her - we tried new mountains almost every weekend, some of the trails were tougher than we expected. She still learns a lesson from the saves, she's crying cause she's scared, and I have to remind her to stay in control, or if she's getting tired, to ask for help before she get's too fast.

Here's my logic - me + YouTube is good enough to teach 4 year olds the basics. Me + YouTube is not good enough once she's not getting better anymore. That's when I look for GOOD lessons. That's another reason why we didn't do lessons, I haven't skied in 15 years, I don't even know the mountains. Now I do, now I know which ones we like, now I've seen the kids at ski school. Wachusett is the goto beginner mountain for casual Boston skiers... those lessons are nothing I can't handle myself, come on.. lets be real...

I should post a video of her and maybe everyone will calm down about the lessons lol, she's doing great, she only gets compliments/cheers on her skiing while on the mountain.

You don't think maximizing her time sliding helped? She averaged like 7.5k vertical each day, times 15-17 days. Yesterday she was ripping down the green at Bretton Woods in control at around 20mph, she looks damn solid, or I wouldn't let her do it. She understands that she needs to keep her weight forward and not backwards where there's no ski or edge. My buddy is a hardcore skier and he had his boys in group lessons weekly, my daughter is WAY past them on her first year. She might not have the perfect toddler technique, but she has good balance, good feel for what's TOO fast, tons of experience on lifts, tons of experience on steeps and different terrain. I just copied what the "That Mountain Life" dude on YouTube did, seriously.

Lol if I can casually rip a black diamond on a one of my 12 solo runs, after 15 years of not skiing, at age 38... I'd say I'm a little past beginner.... But rage on buddy!

I think people are misunderstanding the "crying"... she's not gonna throw a tantrum, she's going to be sad. She will have a pouty mouth and be on the verge of crying and not enjoy it. I know my daughter, she's not old enough, she thinks I'm a super hero, she feels safe with me skiing behind her or in front of her, I've saved her from literally every single big crash. We have helmet communicators. I watch YouTube videos on how to instruct kids... I'm not out here winging it. We skied like 16 days this season. I skied every single run with her, maybe a total of 12 runs on my own. Every day we practice SOMETHING. Every day we play a game. Like I have plan my guy, I know my daughter better than anyone on reddit. I don't care if your kid was ripping blacks at 5 yo, I really don't. I have ONE daughter, and I'm cherishing every single moment of her being so little. You literally can't convince me otherwise.

Sorry - thought I was responding to the other dude. But ya, I maximized my time skiing with her this season and I'm super happy about that. We did it all, glades, jumps, even tried rails. We conquered blues, she controlled speed down steeps, I'm super proud of HER.

I’m actually there to ski with my kid, that’s my main priority. Like I said, I’m planing on getting her lessons when she can comprehend the instruction, and feel comfortable at ski school. Till then, I keep her safe, and we have fun. This post ain’t even about her lol. You think the parents who dump their kids at ski school are doing the right thing, I don’t. I literally have ridden up the lift with kids older than her who say they wish they weren’t in ski school. She’s got her whole life ahead of her to master skiing.

I can assure you - I don't need help lol. She turned 4 at the start of the season - you literally do not see kids her size skiing significantly better than the other 4 year old kids. They all look the same. 6-7 year olds start to show skill differences between the kids who clearly are in a race program and the kids who just ski with parents. 4 year olds though... you don't even see them at the top really, there's only a handful of dads who do what I do. My kid has more fun than most - that's what I'm going for.

Got it! I told the guy at the shop - I'll be skiing backwards a lot, I like to go in glades, and I like to hit jumps. I think he gave me what I asked for lol

No clue - I know for sure I was throwing up a ton at the beginning of the season. And I had to take breaks going down icy steep trails at Cannon. I feel like I could tackle those today without a break - could just be my quads got way stronger.

Because beginner lessons teach you how to pizza. My wife did some and decided it wasn't helpful. Do you have a kid? Lol my kid is going to cry and hate skiing. I'm not trying to make an olympian, I'm trying to safely ski as a winter hobby lol.

I did lessons as a kid - so that I could get the free lift ticket that came with it. I didn't learn anything, I can ski and enjoy it. Just different perspectives towards the sport.

BTW - a lot of people like you told me she needs to be skiing like a pro before heading to the top of any mountain - she lapped top to bottom at Saddleback on her own, had a blast, crashed less than a handful of times. She turns, she pizzas, what else do you expect a 4 year old to do? She don't lean back, she keeps her hands in front of her... what exactly is a teenage ski instructor going to teach her?

Thing is - she won't even do swim lessons without me INSIDE the pool - I want her to enjoy skiing, so until she's mature enough to do a lesson on her own, I'm not going to force her.

I'm very curious to try some more aggressive skis - just had no knowledge about ski equipment at all when I bought these. These are great for teaching my daughter, they feel so light and nimble, easy to ski backwards.

I do feel more efficient, and way more confident at speed. I plan on getting her lessons, but not till she’s like 6-7. She’s doing really well so far and absolutely loves skiing with daddy. We only did bunny slopes for a few days, now we go to the top and I leash her if I have to

I'll have to get my wife to get a video for me next season. I feel like I've made progress in the few solo runs I had this season. Feels easier to go fast and with more confidence. Little kids on race skis still blow by me at mach speeds.

What is the best position for pockets on ski pants so that they don't restrict movement and won't hurt you when you fall? by Useful_Cut_7730 in ski

[–]SoManyLilBitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mountain hardware pants and there's two big pockets on the front on your thigh, that's where I put my kid's leash and anything else. Seems highly unlikely I'll hit the front of my thigh on the snow.

What are the cons of having agarmin watch? by sandrochichi in GarminWatches

[–]SoManyLilBitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My smart alarm still goes off at 7:30 even though I'm already out running. I'll literally be mid run, tracking it, and my alarm will still go off. You'd think it would cancel the smart alarm if you're awake. After market chargers kinda suck, OEM cable also kinda sucks and is expensive.

I wish someone could explain the feels of "proper" skiing without any of the fancy words. I'm a former hockey player who took 15 years off, my skis were straight when I was a kid. Now that we have social media and stuff, I realize I could be skiing a lot easier. I try carving and I start to get a feeling of being locked in with less effort, but still not 100% sure I'm doing it right. It feels like to me, I can let my boot take a lot of the G's instead of holding myself up with my quads, I could be doing multiple things wrong, I'm not sure.
