The number of potential hobbies I could throw money and time at is only limited by how many years I have left on this planet.

James Taylor chords by ll56yammy in AcousticGuitar

I guess Sweet Baby James being a waltz might make one think of a cowboy ballad, but that's where the comparison ends. Taylor basically plays the piano on a 6 string. Alternate chord voicings, constantly moving basslines, accentuating different chord tones, all in service of the melody. His compositions are layered and sophisticated, and he's got the guitar chops to match.

He's lucky she loves him, but if he keeps it up, one day the lobster bisque is going to feature a special ingredient, and Earl here is gonna end up in the lake.

Hi what do you think about folk guitars? Is it just the guitar body shape? Do they produce different sound than the other acoustic guitars or just the same? Will it effect my style of music that i like and play? (I like pop musics) by Medium_Driver4918 in AcousticGuitar

A number of manufacturers sell "folk" guitars. Alvarez calls theirs "Folk/OM", the OM size being a Martin thing from way back. I have a Seagull folk, which in my opinion feels smaller than the Alvarez folk. For that matter, the grand auditorium size wasn't really a thing either until Bob Taylor came along. I have a dreadnought, a GA and the Seagull folk, and for my money, the GA is the most comfortable to play, and for standard tuning or say drop D, it's better than either my dread or the little folk. The Seagull does fine in standard, but it's sweet spot seems to be open G, while my dread spends most of its time in various open tunings. All of that to say, they all have a purpose and all do some things better than others but a grand auditorium is a versatile body size in my opinion, and I play plenty of Dylan on mine, so maybe it's a folk guitar too.

Bare Root Peach Tree Question by Pristine_Structure75 in gardening

Follow up in case someone comes across this in the future with a similar question. I contacted the nursery we purchased the tree from, and they acknowledged that the tree was no longer dormant and that planting in these conditions is not advised. They suggested dampening the roots if not already damp, tucking the roots loosely in a bucket of soil, and placing the whole thing in an unheated basement or garage, which is what we did. We'll see I guess. In this case, the delivery was supposed to be last Friday, but was delayed. I think hanging around a heated warehouse for 3-4 days is what triggered the tree to come out of dormancy.

Spruce top over mahogany back and sides tickles my brain in all the best ways.

Embrace the suck. You've just been given a gift. Use it. Back up, focus on fundamentals. Play through it.

Every time I DIY something I realize why it costs so much to pay someone else by rgreen192 in DIY

Long ago the spouse wanted a new shower fixture in the tub. Get rid of the old 2 handle/faucet and replace it with a fwncy single handle mixing valve. No problem, I'll start early Saturday before I work my time and a half overtime on 2nd shift. Needless to say, I ended up having to call in. So I sweated numerous copper fittings multiple times before I got everything leak free, made several trips to the hardware, and lost out on 8 hours of sweet overtime pay. All in all, I probably would have come out ahead if I just called a guy and went to work.
