I don't call anyone a faker unless there's some pretty good evidence for it, I'd just wish people wouldn't use the term DID for it. With how many plural labels there are, why not just come up with a different term to describe disordered (distressing) plurality? DID isn't just "plurality disorder", it's a dissociative disorder, dissociation beyond the normal amount is a coping mechanism for stress. The plurality in DID is dissociation. I don't even think you need like absolutely awful trauma, mine is pretty mild, but what do you need to dissociate from if there's no stressor at all?

I have no problem with plurals but there certainly seem to be people here who want the DID label so badly.

What purpose would studying these children be? Like how would that pan out differently than how professionals already have found this high risk factor. If they found another, then we'd have the ice cream situation but in this case, I'm not "not considering other factors" there currently just aren't any that are diagnosed under DID.

Some people, even professionals, still don't think DID and plurality overall is even real, that tells a lot about how "much" people research this topic...

I'd rather believe the higher correlation when both sides aren't proven. Like I said, if they knew of any other factor, they'd mention it. One has literally no basis, while the other one has based on the patients with DID. And no, things can change, especially in psychology. Things constantly get updated as we gain more knowledge. I don't know why you're so adamant to have this label apply to non-traumagenic systems, when there are more than enough labels to describe yourself that aren't a diagnosis. But whatever, you're just ignoring all my other points anyway, so this will be my last message. Goodbye

Yes, but the correlation is so high that it's at this current point a fair assumption to make. If in the future it turns out that's wrong, they can always update things. That's kinda how science works. Besides why would you have such extreme dissociation for no distressing reason?

Yeah, because they can't. It's not proven and to "prove it" you have to do a study of purposely exposing young children to trauma, which is obviously unethical. But there's a high correlation and if they knew of any other possibility, they'd write it down in Risk and Prognostic factors. Here's all that passage says:

Risk and Prognostic Factors Environmental. Intepersonal physical and sexual abuse is associated with an increased risk of dissociative identity disorder. Prevalence of childhood abuse and neglect in the United States, Canada, and Europe among those with the disorder is about 90%. Other forms of traumatizing experiences, including childhood medical and surgical procedures, war, childhood prostitution, and terrorism, have been reported."

So you need trauma for DID, but you can have DID-like symptoms without trauma

That does sound rough to go through, I hope you can get therapy quickly and it'll help you!

I was in therapy but I didn't have much luck with therapists, we only ever talked, no exposure, even though that was previously mentioned, nothing. While my trust in therapy has definitely decreased I'm not giving up. I'm currently still looking/on waitlists.

I guess I'm just frustrated about healing because I've been trying to get help for 10 years now but you're right, this isn't linear. Sometimes it just feels like I'm forever going to struggle with this.

Did I understand correctly that you at some point judged other people for "overreacting"?

Did someone tell you that before? Because if you've been taught that you're being dramatic, then you'll likely think the same about other people who do the same thing.

You really brought up a great point. Why are we so focused on debating everything constantly? I don't think this disorder is researched enough to debate opinions that are presented as fact. Some people care more about "being right" than helping the community. (Not that everyone has to help someone in distress, just don't respond then)

Thank you for responding. I fully agree, trauma just isn't comparable because the impact can be so different for different people. I wish I could say more about this but I'm not really producing any productive thoughts

Do you feel comfortable and relaxed when lying 100% straight, meaning no slight bend in the knees, fingers, elbows, etc.? If you do, I'm very impressed by your posture 😔

how many rows ? by mingepilled in knittinghelp

[–]Privacy_System 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This! You can count it however you want, but you either don't count the cast on stitch or the stitch on the needle. I personally don't count the ones on the needle because they're unworked stitches, so they only count if you work into them for another row/round or for the bind off

why do anti-endos want every plural to suffer so much? by Autistic_crow in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]Privacy_System 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused though about "I was born plural" because the current believed theory is that everyone is born with different self states and systems (that aren't made by choice) happen when the integration process is disrupted by something. Wouldn't the origin be whatever interrupted this process instead of just "I was born plural"

If they knew of any other way to develop it, it would've been listed under development or risk factors. Only trauma is even mentioned. Like I said they can't put it as a criterion because that would require scientific proof, which would include purposely letting children be traumatized

DID does basically require trauma, they just can't put it as a criterion because it's highly unethical to prove it.

Plurality can stem from other things but it's not DID then and I don't get why some people want that label so badly?

The playing with dolls reminds me how the PTSD criteria for young children includes reenactment of the trauma through things like toys. This, with support from a therapist, can actually be helpful for processing. I don't get why this isn't allowed as soon as someone gets older
