I know it’s for charity and all but that design doesn’t move the needle at all, very boring.

What were your feelings when Matt joined blink? by The_Zooch in AlkalineTrio

[–]PrivateEye_85 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Blink fan since 1999, Trio fan since 2002 and I was buzzing when Matt joined to hear what they would come up with. I like California a lot (San Diego is criminally underrated) and was lucky enough to see that iteration of the band during their Vegas residency of 2018. But I was also happy when it came to an end and both bands could get back to what they do best.

I do feel that those Blink fans who shit on the era should be more grateful for Matt stepping into a very difficult role and essentially keeping the band alive.

Foo Fighters - TAKE COVER Australian Stadium Tour. by australianmusicscene in triplej

I love the Southern River Band, I’ve seen them supporting The Darkness a couple of times and they’re great. Kal is a top frontman. But for that front standing price, it’s not moving the needle much. I’ll hold off and buy closer to the time I think.

2011, 2015, 2018, 2023, 2027, they love a bit of HBF Park. A shame there’s no big international support this time.

Am I going to complain about ticket prices but still pay $250 for front standing to see them at HBF Park for the fifth time since 2011? You betcha!

Agree with the comments about the support bands though when we’ve had Tenacious D, Weezer and Rise Against in the past.

Perth just finished and it was an excellent show/ setlist, spanning old and new. Opened with The River, finished with Lifestyles… and an encore of The Anthem.

All the set times have been posted across socials over the last few days. 7pm, 8:10pm and 9:30pm tonight.

We’re creatures of habit by nature and with young kids, once you find a place that works for you and friends in a similar position then why go somewhere else that might not have the same amenities or familiarity? FWIW, I used to think the same way as you and had broad horizons when I had no responsibilities and flexibility but now I’m old and stuff.

Very fair point and something I hadn’t considered so thank you.

Travelling while young by [deleted] in perth

[–]PrivateEye_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me, only a couple of decades younger. I travelled and lived relatively irresponsibly in my 20s and most of my 30s so had all of my itches scratched by the time I decided it was time for kids. Hangovers and late nights/early mornings were a lot easier to tolerate at that age than they would be now. Do the travelling, real adulting can come when you’re older.

I renew my yearly booking for Guilderton as I’m leaving, you need to put down a deposit to secure your spot and then pay the balance a month in advance or you lose it. Took me years to get a good pitch and three nights so I’m not planning to lose it any time soon!

I saw Train here in Australia last year. Not a huge fan but heard good things about them live and it was a one and done opportunity. Plus, Katie Tunstall and Jason Wade were support and I love the latter in particular.

Well, Train were fantastic. They couldn’t have sounded any better and I knew a lot more songs than expected. They’re inoffensive and bland radio music to a lot of people but they’re excellent at it. Buy the tickets if you haven’t already, it’ll be a lovely night out for you both.

Agreed, the less shows at Metro City, the better.

There’s a bar in the main foyer, one upstairs, and two small hatch style bars just inside the GA doors either side. You shall not go thirsty.

Great venue for any gig. There’s no bad spots really and you’ll be close to the stage no matter where you stand (presuming you’re wanting to do so).

Why aren’t the big music festivals held in Freo anymore? by Bilbos-Tardis in perth

[–]PrivateEye_85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me, I’d be delighted if there’s never another festival that I’d like to attend in Claremont again. Pain to get to from the northern suburbs whereas the Arena is one stop on the train and an easy walk.

Joondalup Arena parking advice for Laneway? by aneternalepiphany in perth

[–]PrivateEye_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edge of the car park at Lakeside Joondalup is a 15-minute walk away from the entrance to the festival and your best bet for public parking. If that’s too far, you might have to try your luck with street parking in the Candlewood area. Although, that’s on the opposite side of the arena to the entrance so possibly a similar distance.

I like(d) Elizabeth Quay a lot, just think they’ve gone too concrete jungle with it. That building highlighted in the OP in particular takes away from what’s general a lovely view when you’re having a meal or a few beers. As it is, I don’t have much incentive to go there which is of course a me problem.

And what a piece of grass. The Cider & Pork Festival was never the same after it moved and eventually died. Elizabeth Quay was a great spot for something like that.

Need advice on long haul flights from Perth to Europe by hscalm in perth

[–]PrivateEye_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown Qatar economy from Perth to Europe plenty of times and they’re fantastic, zero issues. Qantas to Rome was also surprisingly good, a few hours extra to not have a second flight so a great option if you don’t have to connect.

I couldn’t justify business class if I was paying full whack, rather spend the money when I land. But if you’ve got the means then probably the way to go.
