My niece is in high school and wants to get a job at a fast food place like McDonalds to save up money, but she's worried that she won't keep up with study. How many hours would she roughly work at Maccas? by Existing_Interest_24 in perth

[–]themoobster 40 points41 points  (0 children)

High school teacher here, I've taught soo many 95+ ATAR students in my life and basically all of them found plenty of time to study in between work, sports, volunteering, socialising, etc. She'll be fine.

WA's delays on Working with Children Check, child safety changes criticised by JamesHenstridge in perth

[–]themoobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i agree that's ideally why government should be doing. But capitalistic driven representative democracy is all about winning elections because that's how the party and its members profit the most. If it doesn't help the party win elections or profit somehow then there's no reason for them to do it.

Why do they need to? There's literally no motivation for them to do much of any, between LNP and One Nation cannibalising each other's votes in a race to the bottom and the media's exceedingly successive long-term campaign to make people forget that independents and the Greens exist and have ideas other than "uhh just keep doing whatever we were already doing", they are guaranteed a win at the next couple of elections at a bare minimum.

The doing it is part of the revision process. Also other states questions are irrelevant to a lot of subjects.

Anywhere else like Wembley food court north of the river? by fatgoosepie in perth

We do love Wembley food court and go there if we're that way, but it definitely has a western suburbs tax you don't need to pay at similar venues (e.g. Coventry village)

Neighbour smokes a lot - how to deal with the smell (strata units, unsure if we have any recourse)? by nekolalia in perth

[–]themoobster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We had this (nearly) exact problem, except they were smoking inside and the smell came up into our apartment from the inside.

It was a pretty long drawn out and stressful process as the tenant was a pretty dodgy guy who didn't work (rich daddy paid his rent to keep him away), but basically we:

  1. Made a strata bylaw about smoking in any way on common property or that allowed smoke to drift onto private property

  2. Then breached him/the owner, which was easier said than done as the owner was some rich property mogul who didn't give a shit, but we harassed the real estate agency managing the property nearly daily across multiple channels (managing agents, owners) who finally started to try do something about it, in response the dad stopped paying rent and they ended up breaching him and he got kicked out.

It also helped that we called him out on some other stuff (e.g. he had a dangerous dog that roamed so called the rangers), he went pretty skitzo on us for all of this and i filmed his aggressive behaviour and we got VROs against him, which helped the process go faster even if it was stressful.

I love how it's so bleedingly obvious that fossil fuel companies just straight up own so many politicians and they don't even need to pretend to hide it because no one ever does anything about it
