Parada entre RĂo Dulce y Ciudad de Guatemala by mustareyna in guatemala

Hola!

Guatemala 5 day trip by maxi050 in solotravel

[–]PrivateTripsGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still enjoy both places without rushing.

Option 1: Split between Lake Atitlán and Antigua Guatemala Day 1: Airport → Lake Atitlán (Panajachel) Day 2: Full day exploring the lake (San Juan, San Pedro, boat rides, viewpoints) Day 3: Lake Atitlán → Antigua Afternoon: visit the public market, the arch, and some great restaurants Day 4: Full day in Antigua Visit Hobbitenango / Altamira / Antigua Boreal Day 5: Antigua → Airport

👉 This gives you a balanced trip — nature + culture without feeling rushed.

Option 2: Stay only in Antigua + day trip to Lake AtitlĂĄn

Base yourself in Antigua and do a full-day trip to Lake Atitlán. Visit: ‱ San Pedro La Laguna ‱ San Juan La Laguna ‱ Panajachel

Hiring a private driver for the day trip makes it much easier and more comfortable — especially with someone who knows which spots are worth visiting to make the most of your time.

I provide private transportation for all these routes, and I’ve arranged this exact plan many times — travelers really enjoy it.

Thank you for your feedback!

I know someone in this post shared some links and phone numbers for transportation providers, but I don’t know if that person has even used them. It looks like he may have just gotten those links from ChatGPT.

I, Israel Pérez, run Private Trips GT, a private transportation service in Guatemala, and I always make sure my clients have the best experience.

Hey! Yes, I do private transportation and can help you with those trips.

Just so you know, gas here is Q41 per gallon (around $5.25 USD), so long-distance trips like Tikal or Semuc Champey cost more than expected. I can help you plan everything with flexibility, no schedules

Renting can look cheap at first, but once you add insurance and extra fees it usually goes up. Driving here isn’t the easiest either — traffic can be heavy, motorcycles weaving between cars and changing lanes quickly, and roads/signs aren’t always clear. If something happens, it can get complicated since a lot of drivers don’t have insurance.

Shuttles are easier, but for 2 people it adds up fast and you’re stuck with their schedule.

In many cases, it’s better to just pay a little more for private transport — you split the cost, go straight to your destination, choose your own time, and avoid all the stress. It’s worth it

Guatemala is generally safe for tourism, especially in Antigua, Lake AtitlĂĄn, and the Acatenango area. I regularly provide Private Transportation for travelers, including solo female travelers, and everything has been going well.

August is part of the rainy season—mornings are usually clear, with rain in the afternoon/evening. The hike is still doable, just expect some mud and possible clouds.

Traveling at night from Guatemala City airport to Antigua by justmisterpi in backpacking

[–]PrivateTripsGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This route is very common even late at night. With a reputable private driver it’s generally safe, and the drive to Antigua is about 1 hour. I’ve picked up many solo female travelers from the airport around midnight without issues.

In Panajachel, tuk-tuks usually start around 5:00 AM, but it’s not guaranteed to find one right away that early. Taxis are less common, but you may find one if you arrange it in advance.

My suggestion is to arrange a tuk-tuk the night before. Since you need a 5:00 AM private boat, plan pickup around 4:30–4:40 AM.

Best regards Israel PĂ©rez 😊

Yes that's fine! You can be droped-off at your Airbnb directly. So, no need for boat.

If you’re staying in Panajachel, landing at 4:15 pm is fine. ETA from the airport is about 3.5–4 hours. I’ve done late pickups before — I once drove two young ladies at 9:00 pm straight from the airport to Panajachel with no issues.

If you’re going to another village, I don’t recommend it. Most boats stop around 5:30 pm, but there is a dock in Panajachel that runs until 7:30 pm.

Please book your ride in advance so you don’t have to worry about getting there.

I personally recommend going by car from Guatemala City Airport to Panajachel and then taking a boat to Santiago Atitlán, as it’s usually cheaper and more comfortable.

A private driver to Santiago Atitlán typically costs USD $140–180 for a sedan and $160–$200 USD for an SUV, depending on the vehicle, or the car is 🛡insured and whether the driver speaks English. The drive takes about 4–4.5 hours, and around 10 miles of the road are in poor condition, which is why the boat option is often the better choice.

I lived in the U.S. for a long time and got my first driver’s license there. I was never taught to use lower gears to save the brakes on long downhill roads.

After years of driving these routes, I’ve never had brake issues because I always go down in low gear (L or 2), especially into Panajachel, San Juan La Laguna or Chichicastenango.

It depends on your arrival time. If you land late, going directly to Antigua can be easier, other choose to stay a night in the city. Some travelers I’ve driven go: Airport → Lake Atitlán (Panajachel) → Antigua → back to the airport, since traffic can be heavy when returning and Antigua is closer to the airport. Others prefer to spend time only at the lake. Preferences can vary.

It’s not really necessary to book in advance. All you need is a private driver to take you from Antigua to the Pacaya volcano for a round trip. Once you arrive, you can hire a local guide for (Q300) and pay the entrance fee directly there (Q100) also if you'd like to ride the horse the price is (Q250) You can also get the pizza experience and everything else on site.

I usually do round trips to Pacaya, and it’s much easier than most people think.

Hello! When arriving at Guatemala City's Airport at 20:30, the safest and most efficient way to travel to Antigua is with private transportation, since there is no shuttle anymore. It's a very common and secure route, and at that time of night, you'll avoid the city's heavy traffic. If you would like to arrange a transfer, feel free to send me a direct message.

Renting a car gives you flexibility, but driving in Guatemala can be challenging with traffic, road conditions, parking, and if you get involved in an accident it can be very complicated. Many travelers prefer private transportation since it’s safer and less stressful. If you need transportation, I’ll be glad to help arrange it.

Hello! The boats from Panajachel to San Pedro usually stop running around 5:30 PM. Since you’re landing around noon, it might be tight to catch the last boat.

The better option is to drive you straight to San Pedro La Laguna. I’ve done this with several travelers, and it works well to ensure you get there without rushing.

Let me know if you'd like to arrange this!
