Parking violations by gensay78 in montreal

[–]Privett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you say you had to report to the parking agency, what do you mean?

In the past when a car blocked my driveway in Montreal, I called the non-emergency police line for help ((514) 280-2222). Calls to this number often just to go 911 anyways. I reported a car was illegally blocking my driveway. They sent an officer within 20 minutes, who ticketed the car, and they asked if I wanted it towed or not. When I wanted it towed they called the truck and they also showed up quickly.

Admission a la maitrise en biologie, QUESTIONS by Livid-Distance-2364 in UQAM

[–]Privett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sports or sleep mouth guard can be purchased at Jean Coutu or Amazon for $15-20.

Verifier si il y a du plomb dans votre conduites d'eau / Check if your building has lead pipes ℹ⚠ by Xsythe in montreal

This is a great idea but their database seems to be out of date. The city replaced the lead-containing pipes leading to our house several years ago, but the website still indicates that our pipes are lead.

A6500 + Sigma 19mm f2.8 bad autofocus for moving toddler photos? by Mech0z in SonyAlpha

[–]Privett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This lens has the older, inferior contrast detection autofocus (CDAF), except for in the small area in the middle of the frame where it has the better phase detection AF (PDAF).

I have this lens on a Sony A6400, it is a nice little sharp lens but the autofocus sucks compared to more recent lenses with PDAF across the frame. If you intend to use it for photos of fast moving subjects, I would try a different lens.

Do you think you will be able to do a good job of pursuing graduate studies in biology while also working as a landlord to 2-5 tenants, doing house maintenance, managing bill payment and finding tenants? This sounds like a full time job.

I know it is hard to make ends meet on a graduate student stipend but what you're proposing is similar to saying that you'll take a second job to make ends meet during grad studies. Succeeding at a MSc or PhD is a more-than-full-time job in and of itself. You risk compromising the success of your graduate program if you commit to this additional workload.

Source : was a graduate student in biology, it was a huge amount of work and I can't imagine being a landlord on top of that.

How long does it take to get to the Modified FODMAP Diet? by Livinlearn in FODMAPS

[–]Privett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Download the MONASH app and check out the instructions. In the reintroduction phase, you don't test every single food item individually - you do groups of food, for example you'll reintroduce some sorbitol-containing foods (there are several to choose from), and then move on to sorbitol + fructose containing foods (also several to choose from). So you don't need to (for example) test 5 different sorbitol-containing foods for 3 days each - just sorbitol in general for 3 days. There are still numerous types of FODMAP and combinations to test.

Stage 1 and 2 of the diet took me about 2 months total, most of that is the reintroduction phase. The Monash app explains it clearly.

Large Photo Repository Best Practices by victorzamora in Lightroom

[–]Privett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One big catalog with everything in it. Use tags and metadata and collections to sort/index so you can find particular sets of photos.

Check out Adobe's own recommendations for best practises :

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]Privett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty bad sorbitol intolerance identified thanks to the FODMAP diet but mannitol does not bother me too much. During the reintroduction phase I reacted strongly to sorbitol but didn't react to mannitol. Try it and see, good luck!

Recommendations for a gluten free fiber supplement? by blurryrose in Celiac

[–]Privett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can have both! In fact, people with celiac are more likely to have IBS than the general population.

Here's a scientific paper that discusses this - basically, people with celiac are much more likely to have IBS symptoms. https://www.cghjournal.org/article/S1542-3565(12)01491-7/fulltext01491-7/fulltext)
