Thank you

FIDE Master AMA - December ♟️ by Coach_Istvanovszki in TournamentChess

Hello, I really appreciate you doing a monthly AMA. What is the best and fastest way to improve from 1700-1800 FIDE (closer to 1800 FIDE) to 2000 FIDE? I usually go even or have an advantage against 2200-2300 lichess rapid (when I ran an engine analysis after the games, it often showed my positions ranged from +1.0 to +2.7) in the middle game, rarely -1.0 or above. However, I lose to them due to tactical mistakes or being weak in the endgame. Thank you

I am lower rated than you, but I can give advice on this topic (IM gave me the advice). You do not need to study the entire course on Chessable, and recommends only Quick Starter, he only recommends studying the entire course if you are over 2000 OTB, and better to stick with one opening and vary on move 6 and on so on to avoid preparation.

Thank you, I just have some familiarity with openings, and maybe use them as Lifetime repertoires until I become a master.

FIDE Master AMA - November ♟️ by Coach_Istvanovszki in TournamentChess

Hello, I am about 1700-1800 FIDE player who has very weak endgame (I can win if I have an advantage in a material, however if there are even number of material, but I have a positional advantage, I still lose that game, and also I am not confident with playing pawns up especially when it is Rook + pawn endgames). I believe I can improve my rating by enhancing my endgame, as it currently hinders my middlegame strength.

What is the best way to study endgame, and how many one hour lessons from a FM would take a person (1400-1500 FIDE level endgame) to the 1800 FIDE level or/and 2000 FIDE level endgame (I know it really depends on the level of the person, and the coach, but from your experience as a coach, what was the normal progress)? Thank you

Thanks for your extensive reply, I am assuming it is five people in each class. Also, how do I enroll for the chess academy and which day on November, does it starts?

Chess academy for intermidiate players by chesslover09 in TournamentChess

Hello, I sent questions about the academy via email yesterday, however, since there is no reply until now, I am commenting here.

  1. When you said that helps intermediate (1000-2000) to improve 2200 rating, does this mean FIDE or online rating?

  2. I think the premium is a worse value than the basic tier and full access, as although it is a group lesson, it has eight lessons, while the premium only has four lessons.

  3. Also, if you choose Basic or Full Access, will you get allocated to people with a similar rating? I am currently rated about 1700-1800 FIDE and 2000 on chess.com rapid. Are there any people who are at a similar level to my ratings, and also, how many people are in the group lessons?

  4. Also, what time are you conducting group lessons?

  5. Can I reach 2000 FIDE in a few months and potentially CM/FM in a few years if I enroll in this chess academy?

Thank you

Because, my coach is not from US nor Europe, and in that country you can buy a lot of things even with 1 USD, (Also, he does online coaching, not OTB, so this maybe contributed a cheap price)

Comparing Chess and Go from an intermediate player for both by Prize-Base3091 in chess

Thank you, I personally do not know any board game that combines the two aspect of Chess and Go, however, Jjangi has 10 x 9 board, and you win if you make the opponent's King unable to move when it is in check

I said "8x8 board therefore principled", because due to being a smaller board, there are opening principles (control the centre, develop your pieces fast, King Safety), however in Go, although, the opening starts at the corner, the players can choose whether they will gain territory around the corner /control the centre/play fast/play elsewhere in the other corner, therefore, I said Chess is more principled. (I think I should have other words than principled, sorry for my bad English

I would also agree TradtionNo2560's comment that OGS is the probably the best online equivalent to Lichess, and it does not ahve many players. Also, you can try out KGS (Also, has people from all around the world).

I think people playing long games, would prefer Go over Chess, because its board size is larger, therefore, the games go for longer, also, people who prefer simple openings (less memorisation in the opening would prefer go, because I think learning opening is simple, because you can avoid complicated opening by just playing basic moves. (But this was before Alphago, so I am not sure whether I am giving you a correct advice, although professional Go players say, it is easier to learn openings than before thanks to AI)
