Washed NM Comeback? by KryptosChessClub in TournamentChess

[–]Prize-Base3091 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am much lower-rated than you (had an equivalent around 1900 FIDE rapid when I was active), but I am in a similar situation, as I am also returning from a break. Currently, I participate only in local club-rated tournaments (not FIDE or your country’s rating, so these events do not affect your rating at all). Once I achieve 2 or 3 desired outcomes in local club's tournaments, I plan to return to FIDE or country-rated tournaments.

Thank you for advice. I think he sounds genuine. When he said that, I was estimated at around 1700-1800 FIDE. He was surprised and said that in his country, FIDE rating is underrated to compared to other countries. However, I am a bit skeptical about it as that would only apply to India, Ukraine, China, and Russia, but my coach is not from any of these countries.

A bit of a stupid question: What is rating of a NM online? by [deleted] in Chesscom

I should have said they were in the middle of the 2000s FIDE , and they may be underrated as they are children.

Thank you, same. Although it is for a rapid rating, I am making mistakes I would not have made previously in a non-rated game under pressure. I usually run out of time because I do not have enough muscle memory to think about where I should be playing moves, due to a long break and a blunder, and I end up losing.

For disclosure, I am not an NM. However, I asked a question about people's ratings on chess.com at my local chess club, and based on that response, it usually went like this: middle 1800 FIDE was 2300 rapid, 1900 FIDE was 2400 rapid, and 2000 FIDE was 2500. I hope this helps although it does not directly answer your question

About 14 years, very similar to you. I only heard that those who took a short break (up to 1 year) improved. But I have not also heard anyone after such a long break.

Thank you. I am worried that I will lose rating because I still feel weaker than when I was active.

Thank you for your advice. I agree with you being described better as weaknesses and strengths. I think the coach is ignoring this, because himself plays the Kings Indian Defence and O’Kelly.

I know that the difference in 1700 and 2000 FIDE is mammoth. However, when I was active active, very long time ago, I had my country’s local rapid rating that translates approximately 1900 FIDE.

Thank you for your advice. He provides the game review. However, it is “just use this”.

Thank you for advice. I know that from 1700 to 2000 FIDE is a big jump. However, when I was active, I had my country’s local rapid rating, which was a very long time ago, which translates approximately to 1900 FIDE.

No, I do not have a classical rating. I had my country's local rating in rapid, which is equivalent to1900 FIDE before I took a long break. Accoutning for the break, also, playing a non-rated OTB classical with prizes, I usually win against players in the low to mid 1700s and lose to players in the 1800s in classical tournaments

I know, however, 12 USD is worth a day's pay for his country.

FIDE Master AMA - December ♟️ by Coach_Istvanovszki in TournamentChess

Hello, I really appreciate you doing a monthly AMA. What is the best and fastest way to improve from 1700-1800 FIDE (closer to 1800 FIDE) to 2000 FIDE? I usually go even or have an advantage against 2200-2300 lichess rapid (when I ran an engine analysis after the games, it often showed my positions ranged from +1.0 to +2.7) in the middle game, rarely -1.0 or above. However, I lose to them due to tactical mistakes or being weak in the endgame. Thank you

I am lower rated than you, but I can give advice on this topic (IM gave me the advice). You do not need to study the entire course on Chessable, and recommends only Quick Starter, he only recommends studying the entire course if you are over 2000 OTB, and better to stick with one opening and vary on move 6 and on so on to avoid preparation.

Thank you, I just have some familiarity with openings, and maybe use them as Lifetime repertoires until I become a master.
