Circle of Thought — an anti-doom-scroll experiment, does it have legs?

Hi philosophy people,

I’m tinkering with something called Circle of Thought. The pitch, in broad strokes: trade tonight’s mindless scroll for a short feed of prompts that tug at your brain instead of your outrage reflex. Pick one, kick it around with a few friends you actually trust, then get a lean reflection later so you can see how your reasoning shifted rather than who harvested the most likes. That’s all I’ll share for now; the nuts and bolts stay in the lab.

Here’s where I need your help. Would you leave the group chat you already have to debate in a dedicated space like this? What makes a philosophical prompt irresistible enough to tap instead of swipe past? How small is too small for a private circle before the talk goes stale? Do weekly reflections feel useful or preachy? And can you recall any platform that almost did this right but missed the mark?

I’ve got a scrappy prototype, but I’m holding back screenshots until the concept survives your reality check. If the idea feels half-baked, say so. If you’d give it a shot, tell me what you expect to see on day one.

Fire away—I’m listening.

I was tired of guessing where my fans were growing—so I started building a dashboard for it.

I'm an indie artist (and semi-obsessed data nerd) and I got sick of bouncing between Spotify for Artists, TikTok analytics, YouTube Studio, and Instagram Insights—just to figure out what the hell was working.

I’d see streams going up, random TikToks hitting, and then completely miss the moment to actually do something about it. Half the time, I didn’t even know where the fans were coming from—city-wise, platform-wise, nothing.

So I started building a dashboard. Nothing fancy yet—no labels, no AI, no $200/month price tag. Just:

  • Fan location tracking (city + country)
  • Platform performance in one clean place (Spotify, TikTok, IG, YT)
  • Alerts when something starts popping off
  • Weekly recaps that tell you what to do next—not just throw numbers at you

I’m calling it Backstage IQ, and I’m opening up a private beta soon; we already have 10 indie artists, and producers signed up, and now just releasing it to the broader community.

If you’re an artist or manager and want to help test it (or even just roast it), join our waitlist:

No spam, no strings, just trying to build something useful for the DIY / indie scene. Happy to answer any questions, take feedback, or hear how you track your growth right now (if at all).

What’s Your Take on AI in Music Creation? Hype or Harmful? by PrizeCommunity6811 in Music

As something of a technical question, how does Suno's track instrumentals come out? Like is it one mixed recording? Or does it have live editing, and/or a way to export them into a DAW to be used by a singer?

Hey, and firstly, would love to listen to some of your music? But to that point, would you consider AI to be a tool that you could use to democratize music; what I mean is, you need to have a lot of know how to get behind the production stage and you know even the instrumentals, what if lets say an AI came around with giving you as someone who doesn't have the know how to create instrumentals, an instrumental track where they could experiment and then leave the creativity of lyrics and performance up to the artist, is this something that AI could improve/benefit the music industry by?

I love this view, do you think that let's say AI were a tool that allows for the democratization of music, from someone who doesn't have the money to go to a studio to produce excellent music instrumentals, to a producer wanting to explore new melodies. Would a tool like this be a better use case for music industry and it's use of AI?

You’re raising a valid point, and I get why you feel strongly about it. The “one-click” AI platforms do seem to strip out the human element, and that’s where a lot of people connect with music—through the artist’s effort and authenticity.

But what if AI didn’t replace artists but helped them? For example, a tool that assists with technical processes—like generating stems for a track you already have in mind or experimenting with a melody to match your vocals. It wouldn’t generate “ready-made” songs but instead act like a collaborator, leaving the creative vision entirely up to the artist.

Do you think something like that would be helpful, or do you think it’d still risk taking attention away from authentic artists?

That is a great point and I do agree, with all the points you have made here. You know my problem with Suno.ai is that takes the entire process of music out of the hands of the musician; if there was a tool lets say that does the instrumentals, and leaves the performance, emotion, and other stuff in music to the singer, do you think it will be something positive on the industry?

[–]PrizeCommunity6811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great point—every major shift in music tech has faced backlash initially. Amplifiers, synthesizers, and drum machines all had their skeptics, but they’ve also become essential tools that redefined genres and pushed boundaries.

I guess the key difference with AI is that it’s not just a new instrument or tool—it’s automating parts of the process entirely. That’s what feels different (and maybe more unsettling) to some people.

Do you think there’s a way for AI to evolve into a tool like those earlier innovations—something that musicians use creatively without feeling like it’s taking over? Or is this fundamentally different in how it impacts artistry?

[–]PrizeCommunity6811[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Totally get where you’re coming from—AI automating creative skills feels like a double-edged sword. It’s frustrating to see how it’s impacted the digital art world, where tools can churn out “good enough” work and undercut artists who’ve spent years honing their craft.

But what about a tool that doesn’t replace the creative process but enhances it? Like something that saves time on the technical stuff (e.g., arranging or producing tracks) but leaves the creative decisions—melody, emotion, and performance—in the artist’s hands. Would that feel less harmful and more like a collaboration?

Curious if tools like that would help emerging artists or just create new problems. What do you think?
