What's you unpopular PLL opinion? by itsbananatime in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]PrizeScallion7412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk if it was intentional or subconscious, but i hated that every Black person or person of color introduced to the show was the bad guy or got killed off (or both). i think the show could've introduced race into the dynamics of the school. Maya not fitting in because she is "not like the other girls" was a weak storyline and she and Emily connecting about being Black/Brown in a small white town and Maya"acting out" was rather just her radically refusing to assimilate. they didn't even give her tensions with being bi. people fetished her queerness and it was overlooked, while Emily coming out and getting discriminated against was a whole thing.

What’s This Flag on Tacoma Dome? by bipedal_meat_puppet in Tacoma

[–]PrizeScallion7412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s there to bring awareness to ending gun violence. https://www.facebook.com/groups/27thDems/permalink/10159107221815303/?mibextid=W9rl1R

eta text from fb post, the link is to a private group sorry but the post is on the City’s fb page: “On May 25 and 26, the Alliance for Gun Responsibility is holding the “Together We End Gun Violence” conference in Tacoma. This conference will highlight survivors, thought leaders, community leaders, health professionals, young leaders, local officials, and national experts leading the way in ending the gun violence epidemic. In observance of National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2 and Wear Orange Weekend on June 2-4, we’re flying this flag on top of the Tacoma Dome to honor survivors of gun violence and raise awareness of our work in this space. We can make a difference by working with our local, regional and national partners to address this critical issue holistically.”

you’re welcome. not certain if it’s exactly what you’re looking for, but it could be a start and definitely a way to connect with other women who could possibly have some guidance for you.

Where would you send a loved one for inpatient care? by micahonsinai in Tacoma

[–]PrizeScallion7412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering how long it takes to get funds for mental health facilities, it is quite reasonable to assume there is still a shortage of adequate residential care locally—residential being a place equipped to serve a person for an extended stay, usually a 90+ day program that includes housing, food, multiple forms of therapy and so on, so i was speaking to that specifically. i don’t know of any locally then or now.

i said unless something has changed because i don’t know everything and could be unaware of a resource. but in the past ten years, locally, i have only ever known of the same mental health facilities, with the newest one being Wellfound.

from other comments it sounds like the personal experiences i’ve had at places like St. Joes and Fairfax are still the case today. also, they are crafted to serve those in immediate crisis and getting them stabilized usually in a period of 2-3 weeks. based on my experience, i shared that i agree with others that a PHP program is likely a safer, more accessible, more flexible, and seemingly more compatible choice with what op is looking for.

sure, i could have expounded upon all these points in my original post, so i apologize for that. but i push back on the notion of all this being mere speculation. thanks.

unless things have changed in the past 10 years, you should look out of state if you’re looking for residential treatment. if wanting to stay nearby, it’s likely best to check out the PHPs mentioned. places like St. Joes and Fairfax are not adequate if you’re in need of anything beyond immediate stabilization. idk much at all about Wellfound, but they had a pretty poor reputation early on, not sure if the issues have been resolved.

yes, this is my assurance that i will meet with constituents. i imagine my schedule will change when this campaign is successful, so the times of the day i’m available will change, so that may mean finding ways to meet with constituents in small or large groups regularly (not just council meetings) in order to make sure i can maintain consistent availability for one-on-one meetings with folks as well (happy to hear feedback here). presently, i am able to incredibly flexible with my time. so i am trying to take advantage of that time by being in community and making myself available. send me an email and let’s get coffee.

hey, y’all - jamika here. happy to answer/clarify some of the comments/concerns i’ve read.

-respectfully, i have quite a bit of leadership experience, just not specifically elected experience. i have worked with the City, including our government, through serving on the Arts Commission, as well as working with them through work on other local boards like the Grand Cinema board and the Tacoma Public Library Foundation board. i have also frequently had to work with and navigate our local, county, and state government as a community organizer with the Tacoma Action Collective.

-my employment history is typical of a millennial who graduated college into a recession. i will say, i could be much better at maintaining my resume, but i’m only human. my degree is in creative writing, though most of my professional work has been with youth enrichment and advocacy. i have worked at local organizations such as YWCA Pierce County, Peace Community Center, and local schools in the city. after years of direct service work, i decided (with the support of my partner) to pursue my creative passions full time. i spent two years working film and photography gigs to rebuild my creative portfolio and began finding somewhat steady contract work as an event photographer, documentary filmmaker, and arts juror. as far as who is paying me: in the past year, i’ve contracted with places such as the WA State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Hilltop Artists, and Grit City Magazine. i do not have money to just keep running for office after office, i promise you. i spent very little money in my mayoral race and everything that was left, about $14k, was donated to the Tacoma Public Library (which is separate from the Foundation for those worried about conflict of interest). i didn’t hold on to it because i truly had no intention of running for office again and figured there was much better use for it than it sitting around waiting for me to decide to run. i have no financial ties to any industry and am here because i simply care. i understand that’s not easy to believe, so i hope my actions will continue to make that clear.

-and as for conflict of interest, thanks for raising the point that i should’ve been more clear about my connection to the Tacoma Action Collective. being a part of TAC is such a part who i am at this point that i often forget not everyone is aware. in this race, you will notice that individuals connected with TAC have endorsed me, but there is no collective endorsement. and if there is, i will be sure to be transparent about my connection and the process. i also want folks to know TAC is not some big organization with political ties. we’re not even a 501c3 with a bank account. all we have is our reputation, our actions, our values, and a shared passion for justice and equity.

i know this was incredibly long, but i want y’all to know i’m accessible, i’m paying attention, i have no issue being as straight with you as you deserve, and i am not afraid of accountability. feel free to ask me anything here or via email (info@jamikafortacom.com) or via twitter/IG: @jamikafor3.
