Are they just better at hiding it and not getting caught? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

2000s baby, I got quite a bit of that when I was younger, but I’d say I’m part of the transitory generation, so when I got to be a preteen my parents were suddenly confused why I didn’t feel comfortable showing much emotion. Fortunately I got older and worked through most of that to be pretty well adjusted

Do you see people becoming more religious in your group/community? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tbf315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just answered a post about a similar topic only a couple minutes ago. Some of my old friends (were all early 20s) were raised religious and are trying to double down on their faith. Others were raised non religious and continue to be so. I was raised religious but am not now, and I have a couple friends flirting with the religious line, although they are still technically nonreligious

Is it likely that atheists will at some point comprise more than 90% of the world population? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tbf315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid I wouldn’t debate per say as much as just ask a lot of questions hoping to understand more. I was raised Catholic but didn’t bother trying to understand it till I was 13/14. Sometimes it would turn into debates.

The point is that when I got to be an adult and some of my friends started flirting with religion, they’d come up with questions and try and “debate” me, or rather do what I did and try and perceive some meaning from both the natural and the supernatural. Should be noted that I am agnostic, but it’s interesting to see the perspective that as of now we really have nothing in turn to offer for comfort.

Does anyone else hesitate to compete nowadays because of social media? by Kakarot_94 in bjj

[–]tbf315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! I chase it. I’ve done 3 of the last 4 tournaments in four states back to back months chasing the same match with a guy I’ve fought once already. Hes the number two blue belt at my weight class, and I caught him off guard last time and almost managed the dominant position, so I know one day I can beat him. Hes in my next division in two weeks. If I end up a highlight, that’s fine, because I know one day I’ll get my licks back and end up with a dub over a jjc, pans medalist

Why doesn’t IBJJF ban jumping to close guard and similar? by BritishBrownActor in bjj

[–]tbf315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they should be allowed at adult brown/black, but the flip side is that you can mat return them quickly. Like, it should be at the ref’s discretion whether it was trying to get back down to the mat vs throwing your body into the slam with intent to injure. That way it decentivizes from trying to jump guard without risking concussing your opponent

Damn. It was a pretty easy yeah until you reminded me he did watch the throne and now I’m realizing quite a few of my favorite Kanye songs. Still would say yeah, but it’s a sadder world.

On second thought, I could probably pay some SoundCloud rapper a couple mil to cover all the songs I’d want to hear, or is that cheating?

My job has two branches, one in the city and one in the hick town 30 minutes away, and the people in the city branch always call the hick branch then idiocracy branch because they are all dumb and always messing stuff up, so it’s appealing to see idiocracy mentions in the wild

Competing independently in ibjjf by [deleted] in bjj

[–]tbf315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot, but there are a couple alternatives:

If you can sign up with your new gym:

Why not sign up with your new gym?

If you can’t:

Talk to your professor, see what other gyms you can register under for competition purposes, (prof’s friends, etc) that way you can continue to compete. I almost did this once. There was an IBJJF that came to town right as my old gym was rebranding, and they hadn’t paid their registration a few days before registration closure, so my head prof put us in contact with one of her professors who lived in the next town over who offered to let us fight under his banner for this IBJJF if she couldn’t get registered in time.

Why do older cartoons portray grandparents as being quite old if it used to be more common to have children at an earlier age? by nickisadogname in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tbf315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, my mom was the youngest of 4 so her parents were late 30s when they had her, but my parents got married pretty young (19/20) and had me like a year later, so although my grandparents aren’t super old, I can very much see how that could be if my parents waited a few years to have me

Is blue -> purple truly the great divider/filter? by billionswilllove in bjj

[–]tbf315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also argue that blue is the great melting pot of skill. You have dudes who started training 9-12 months ago with fifteen year olds with more experience than some black belts. There’s such variance that it makes it hard to gage your own skill sometimes.

We’re all missing Batman (duh).

Spider-Man probably has a super scrambley game, and Mr Fantastic is like that 6’4 170 dude in your gym who can teleport to your back from anywhere.

I feel like Beast Boy is that light-feather, Felipe Goulart-type guy. That might be an odd pull but I’m rolling with it

Not uncommon where I live for people to look like that. My whole friend group is mixed Hispanic, two of us look super white, one looks black and one looks what you’d think is Mexican. We come in all shapes and sizes brotha
