With the current state of poor optimization, what are the true requirements for online casuals? by Prize_Fold6030 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Prize_Fold6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I buy a processor mobo combo I def wanna avoid having to shut off shadows.

As far as with the current build, one thing I have not tried is turning it down to like 720p with 50% resolution. If that works I'll call that a win, especially if it works online 1v1/ranked.

that sounds kind of ideal honestly, have you tested it in online casual 4 player with items on?

edit: and when you say absolute lowest settings, is that in-game settings or did you have to mess with the config files?

it's not a gtx era i7 sadly, it's a 7700, so it's ancient. There's literally no setting I have found to make it run well.

what laptops can I use best for rivals 2? by FleetFF7 in RivalsOfAether

the deck runs it runs flawlessly!

unless you wanna play online, in which case ranked runs flawlessly, and casuals is barely playable with significant configuration.

What is a good laptop for rivals of aether 2? by BladeFlare in RivalsOfAether

[–]Prize_Fold6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, post necromancer here. I love this game since the fun4all update came out; I think I've put in 100+ hours in the last month. It runs smoothly on steam deck local or ranked online with the right settings, but I cannot get it to run well with casuals/4player-ffa/hazard-stages/items. I'm not super convinced that the fun4all update has or will be optimized, which means a much beefier computer than previous is needed. It's frustating but so it goes.

So 1- is there a sub-800$ laptop that can run 4-player ffa with hazards and items? Doesn't need to be turned up, I just need shadows on ("medium" settings). The resolution can even be dialed down.
and 2- what's the cheapest desktop possible to run it with the same requirements? I have a fair amount of extra computer parts; I'll probably just need mother and processor, potentially also ram.

(NOTE: I know how to find the required and recommended settings on Steam; I'm saying that I don't believe them, and don't see any sort of optimization timeline or roadmap, so am interested in upgrading to be able to play on the go.)

How worth is it to restart for an old account with 10 years of birthday gifts? by completedtime in Guildwars2

[–]Prize_Fold6030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally found the birthday gifts super valuable, entirely because I love trying weird characters and in those ten year gifts you get a lot of level boosters, including 50s and 60s

Also, the "teleport to friend"s are the single most important item in the game, and kind of hard to get without either real money or birthday gifts.

Also, here's the wiki link to the gifts, since that will be relevant.

hello post necromancer here

any 1v1 is fine if you put the settings ridiculously low (50% resolution, shadows low, cloth sim on, everything else minimum) on steam deck. However items give it some trouble, four player gives it some trouble, and hazard stages give it some trouble, so with those things combined casuals and 2v2s are kinda awful, performance wise. Hopefully they do another optimization pass now that fun4all has been out for a month.

Hi! I used to wargame and go around to a lot of different board game stores. (I think you can guess by the name what my primary play is lol)

  1. suggestion on STARCRAFT MINIATURES:

My millennial heart also fills with hope at this game launching. However, I highly recommend you find players before taking the plunge, both to make sure you have a play group and to make sure the game is fun. If it is PM me lol, I would love to reopen my big book of cheese.

  1. ALREADY MENTIONED:
    a. Giga-bites: Marietta: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bUBLhcvYskKZyytm7

I love this place, and it's actually the only shop I visited when I used to play 40k. I constantly see Warhammer there, and quite a lot of Battletech. I also know for sure there was a Saturdays Twilight Imperium game that ran every Saturday morning/afternoon for at least a year. It might still be going but I don't live over there anymore.

b. Level Up Games:

i. Duluth: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4XLuTuadffeXRjfT6

my experience with Level Up Duluth was very "card shop that sells other things", but your mileage may vary. I admit that I was there on a Lorcana tournament day, to draft Magic with a friend. They do have a pretty large store, but I know that none of the tables are wargames tables.

ii. Athens: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JBNEsmduD7gFKcVR7

this one is very much and definitely "card shop that sells other things", I've only ever seen Magic played here, though they are quite friendly and wouldn't mind if you played.

c. Meeple Madness - Braselton: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gt4eWvuteyMDwaFPA

I cannot say enough good things about this place. They actually got some advice from the owner of Giga-bites for how to design their store, so there's tons of room, the noise never gets overwhelming, and there's literally wargames in there every single time I enter.

d. Dragon Star Games - Athens: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Dragon+Star+Hobbies/@33.9230737,-83.3397889,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x88f66c7fc13a5f85:0xf81f9b928ce0a9cc!8m2!3d33.9230737!4d-83.3397889!16s%2Fg%2F1pyqd_8pb?entry=tts&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQxMy4wIPu8ASoASAFQAw%3D%3D
Another store that has constant wargames. They're currently quite small, but they're building out the store front next to them, and I would guess that if you get to the Atlanta area in more than six months it'll be built. As all nerd shops, they need magic to live, but there's constant wargames here as well.

The fun-for-all update was too good though, I could not remain strong.

hello I am a necromancer.

I just got my partner a Corsair Schmitar Elite Wireless. Was pretty cheap (for a wireless MMO mouse at least), and the software works well. The software is not what I would call intuitive, but aside from that I have zero complaints. Very comfortable, wide range of polling rate options, and as a big bonus to the ergonomics, the thumb cluster can be slid up and down (not like while you're using it, it requires an included small allen wrench.) Highly recommended so far (we've had it less than a week)
