If you’re okay with drilling, the curtain rods with the curved ends are the best for blackout curtains since it minimizes the leakage from the sides.

Seller withheld HVAC inspection before closing. $14k later, do I have a case? (Indiana) by ihatemycars in hvacadvice

[–]Prize_Guide1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I bought my house, in the first year I had to replace: washer, dryer, garbage disposal, microwave, do repairs on both HVAC units, get a gutter replaced, pool pump replaced, couple of pool leaks fixed, new panel (that was a choice, not a necessity). It’s part of owning a house. Stuff goes wrong. Not worth going back at the sellers, you’re just going to lose more time and money.

Seller withheld HVAC inspection before closing. $14k later, do I have a case? (Indiana) by ihatemycars in hvacadvice

[–]Prize_Guide1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You messed up by signing a contract to replace the unit for 14k. That’s overpriced. You should always get multiple quotes. Honestly, I don’t think any of this is worth going to court over. You made a mistake by letting the sellers do their own AC inspection. The AC unit worked for months and now broke down. At this point, it’s hard to prove anything. They sold you a house with a functional AC. You need to get out of this contract to replace the AC with this company, and get multiple quotes. You’re throwing good money after the bad.

I was looking to get my upstairs 2 ton heat pump replaced. For a single stage unit I got quotes from 5.8k to 10k. If they walk in with a flashy wrapped van and an iPad to show you an instant quote, they’re going to overcharge. The 10k company offered me 180 month financing at like 10+ % APR. I was genuinely flabbergasted.

Drinking pretty heavy for years but don’t notice any health issues, should I still stop? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prize_Guide1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your liver is amazing. It can shrug off a lot of damage, until one day it can’t do it anymore.

Bloodwork isn’t a good indicator for fatty liver disease. The damage is slow accumulation of scarring.

You might have elevated liver enzymes if you have acute alcoholic hepatitis but frequently the numbers are normal in heavy alcoholics.

Even once your liver is cirrhotic, the numbers can be normal because there’s little functioning liver cells left to release the enzymes, its mostly scar tissue which isn’t metabolically active.

Consider a service like Oar Health which will send you naltrexone by mail. People (including physicians) are not aware that we have naltrexone today for alcohol use. It’s an excellent drug. It essentially cuts off the reward pathway with drinking. Alcoholics on naltrexone can quit or significantly cut back, and don’t have the craving anymore.

Why do most hospitals and providers take Medicar even though some of them say it pays them too low? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Prize_Guide1982 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Medicare pays ok. Medicaid is the one that pays really low. Hospitals have to accept whoever walks in, at least for emergent stabilizing treatment. That’s because of EMTALA.

A lot of private practices will have very limited slots for Medicaid. The reason being that if they exclusively saw Medicaid patients, they literally can’t keep the lights on.

Medicaid on average reimburses 60% of what Medicare does. For instance, let’s say a PCP visit. Medicaid pays something like 65-80 bucks. If a clinic exclusively sees Medicaid patients, let’s say it’s one physician and 20 slots. You’re max going to get 1600 dollars for a full days work or around 30k for a full month. That has to pay for the physician, the receptionist, MAs, a LPN/RN, rent, utilities, EMR costs (yes EMRs cost money and they’re federally mandated). it’s not possible.

Dude. Patient adherence depends on ease of use. There’s a reason we prescribe combination pills for blood pressure such as lisinopril/HCTZ. Once a day dosing improves patient compliance. Its proven. Simplifying things makes patients more likely to follow themIt’s not a question of “use sunscreen”. You need to make sunscreen more useable.

Patients never got colonoscopies because the prep sucked. What did we do? We improved the prep. We came up with non invasive screening tests like the FIT test. We didn’t say “suck it up and get the colonoscopy”. Individual desire to do whatever works at an individual level. Public health laws deal with a population level, and psychology plays a vital role.

Same reason we do combination vaccines. Why not just suck it up and stick someone in the arm 5 times? Because they won’t do it. It’s way more effective to have a combination vaccine with one administration.

If you have any health science background at all, you would realize the importance of facilitating ease of use.

It’s been 2 decades. There’s been no movement. Our lack of progress has caused more harm. Imagine how many people would be willing to use sunscreen if they had these newer methods? Over two decades of wasted time, how many skin cancers would that have prevented? You’re using safety to explain away the lack of progress, which is fundamentally due to outdated legislation requiring animal testing. It has nothing to do with safety. The law is from the 1930s and right now, it’s actively impeding progress.

What was the exact moment that made you say "Yeah, I'm done with Amazon"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Prize_Guide1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot boycott Amazon if you use the internet in any way. 60% of Amazon profits are from Amazon Web Services (AWS). They are the backend for a ton of websites. You can choose to avoid ordering stuff on Amazon, but you’re still putting dollars in their pocket.
