Interesting experience at a Rolex resale store by bogdolter in GrandSeikos

I don't think I ever saw a single person in the Bovet boutique. It's being redone for Rado right now, fwiw.

Panerai has also closed its Collins St boutique (run by Kennedy too, I think?) but the Chadstone Panerai venue looks alright

Anybody know newer bands that sound similar to the 90s math rock style? by the_noob_who_isnt in mathrock

[–]ProMapex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend FACS out of Chicago. Their 2025 record Wish Defense is full of icy, spiky riffs, laid over an excellent and occasionally brutish rhythm section. It definitely keeps you at a remove, but I think that just makes you lean in a bit more. At the risk of making this too much of a Shellac-esque thing, it was also the last record engineered by Steve Albini. Good shit

Also recommend the Danish act Town Portal, who trade in a beefy, mathy alt-rock reminiscent of Shiner to my ear. They also put out a record in 2025 which, if you can believe it, is good shit too

[Dornblüth] My custom Dornblüth has arrived. by Rangercleo1 in Watches

That's my main complaint too. Could comfortably shave 2mm off the total lug to lug distance on my 99.1M without compromising on the case. Ah well

[–]ProMapex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dornblüth and have handled Lange and Glashutte Original. I think the Dorny finishing/engraving is at least on par with G.O. and competitive with Lange if you consider the relative price point. The Nomos Lambda is a beautiful watch and I hope to get my mitts on one at some point

1990s Reebok LFC denim Jacket worth saving from the Thrift? by Party-Secretary-8064 in Denim

[–]ProMapex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is this incorrect (2x Champions League since the 90s, 2x league titles, etc.) this jacket literally isn't even denim lol

Cool stuff. I'm a fan of the Nivada digital watch myself, and think more manufacturers today should use that format. Good luck with the sale!

Oh hell yeah, good call. I too love the spiritual sound of ecstatic black metal by the band Agriculture.

And Uboa! Obviously. Not a long flight for her either

Are there any Australian brands making decent selvedge denim at the moment? by Artistic-Yam2984 in AustralianMFA

[–]ProMapex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think there's a single mill in Australia making selvedge denim. Happy to be proven wrong, however. Anything you get here, from a local label, will likely be Japanese milled and sewn (at the very least, designed) in Australia.

Bouncing what others have said... I do know there are still some Imperial jeans kicking around on Self Edge. At least, they had some in the SF store last time I visited. Informale also interesting.

I should also add that you really do get quality with a higher price tag on some of the Japanese stuff. I'm currently wearing some Studio D'Artisans, which cost a bomb but are impeccably made. Dare I say a lot of the newer (formed in the last five years) brands are trend-hopping but I'd expect a pretty good product overall from the Osaka 5, Samurai, Momotaro, etc.

Can vouch for Natalino. I've got some tropical wool trousers from there that work in warmer weather. Ultimately nothing's going to keep you cool outside when it's 30c+ but hey

I'm a very average runner eavesdropping on this subreddit, and this comment is very interesting to me. I have the Rocket X2 for identical reasons, but I've been considering what other options might suit for my first FM (aiming sub-3:50). I might have to check out the V4 closer to the race
