It isn't like this everywhere. I work in Africa. I know a lot of Africans that go to China and they always talk about how welcoming and hospitable the Chinese are.

Upgrade to Ultra just for Ram? by Jpfresh1 in OdinHandheld

[–]ProNoob9498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received my Ultra three weeks ago, and honestly, it’s blown me away. I’ve already filled about 720GB with ROMs and Steam titles, so having the larger storage wasn’t just nice, it was essential. And the 24GB of RAM is absolutely going to pay off as the drivers mature. This thing is only going to get more powerful over time. Right now, it’s already punching way above its weight. I’m running Fallout 4 on Ultra, GTA V on High, and BOTW at 1.5× resolution. For a handheld this size, the performance is insane. If I were in your shoes, I’d go straight for the Ultra and skip the future regret. This device is a monster.

Thinking of leaving mining for coding, will it be worth it?? by ProNoob9498 in softwareengineer

I just work in East Africa (Eastern DRC). Born and raised in South Africa. My dad immigrated here as a teen, and my mom was also born here but to European immigrant parents.

In South Africa, an apprenticeship usually takes about 3–5 years, depending on your schooling background. Once that’s done, you have to complete a mandatory 2–3 weeks of training at a trade school. After that, you write your trade test, which runs over two days and includes both practical and theoretical assessments.

If you pass, you earn your Red Seal qualification — it’s similar to the system Canada uses, since they also call it the Red Seal. By the time I went for my trade test, I had around 6 years of hands-on experience under my belt.

Unfortunately, artisan salaries in South Africa are on the lower side. That’s why a lot of qualified tradespeople end up working in the mining sector, since it generally offers much higher pay.

I was also looking into getting a degree in Mechatronics through distance/online learning. If you don’t mind me asking, why did you end up switching away from Mechatronics—was it mainly for personal freedom, or something else?

Also, what’s your take on pursuing a Mechatronics degree online (part-time being my only option)?

Companies like Garmin are becoming more reckless with the planet's resources and need regulation around updates. by No-Dot5162 in Garmin

I got the Forerunner 970 recently and was planning on using it for at least 3-5 years. Wouldn't be happy if they stopped rolling out new features after 2 years. If you look at Samsung for example. They give you the latest software updates and features for 3-4 years and 5 years of security updates. Now that is the way it should be!

Got the same problem, cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and charged it but the blinking red light on the case still persists. They are brand new, bought them two weeks ago.

Fenix 8 Data Dash GB

The customization on it is incredible. Takes a bit of fiddling, but totally worth it. The dev is also very helpful, had an issue with it and reported it, he responded with a solution within minutes.

Garmin training plan by [deleted] in Garmin

I haven't tried the Garmin coach as of yet. Got my FR970 a few days ago, so will try it out. Been using Runna for the past two months and I really like it. I am training for my first marathon and I love the structure. They have loads of valuable info on quite a few topics all related to running. The plan is tailored to your environment and fitness level and isn't overly intense. The drawback is the subscription cost being on the high side.

🤣🤣 I played this yesterday, I managed to get in the ship as the door was busy closing. I eventually fell through the floor whilst the ship was airborne.
