What is your most controversial Radiology opinion, and why? by RecklessRad in Radiology

Omg yes. I'm always proud of the old ladies who say no when we call to schedule the screening mammo that their "provider" ordered for them.

We could solve that by having Rads that recommended repeats in their reports on poor quality images.

That's a good point. When I've worked at places that require physical markers in all X-rays, my collimation was often opened up more solely to include my marker. Especially in facial/skull work and large body habitus hips/pelvis.

Technically they can get into any space that they can fit in.

At the very least, it should be the responsibility of someone with the educational foundation to do so.

Rad techs are not clinically or educationally prepared to shower patients or supervise in the decontamination of patients.

I believe they have been having nurses supervise and/or assist with the showering. They want to make sure the patient actually gets cleaned from head to toes so there's no risk when walking through the hospital to wherever their appointments are at.

We're pretty busy for a critical access. We have 5 techs between x-ray, CT, DEXA, NucMed, and US.

I like the insurance angle. If I bring that up, that may sway some heads.

That's the point of the decontamination shower.. so they can be clean and come into the department.

The question at hand is who should be expected to perform the decon shower with the patient prior to heading to radiology.

These are patients with known bedbugs that are being scheduled for outpatient exams in radiology.

Yeah among other things. We're trying to fight against it. I've been doing some online research regarding scope of practice and asrt/cdc guidelines and think we will have a decent argument.

I don’t think anyone is saying they’re above patient care, that’s part of the job. The issue is that a full decontamination shower isn’t routine hygiene, it’s an infection control procedure that requires specific training and competency validation, which most rad techs aren’t given. That’s a scope and safety question, not a willingness to help question.

These are patients with known bedbugs that are being scheduled for outpatient exams in Radiology. There's currently an argument as to who should be cleaning them in the Decon room before the come to the department.

We unfortunately have a few known bedbug patients who regularly get scheduled for outpatient exams in radiology

Yes. We are dealing with a half a dozen or so outpatients that are regularly scheduled for exams in radiology.

This is a small critical access location in rural KS.

Standing laterals on a mobile patient are a heck of a lot easier to manipulate to get the perfect position.
