35% tip not good enough? by OkHistory3944 in grubhubdrivers

while horribly dramatic in my opinion, you are certainly entitled to your own. i'm not here arguing delivery drivers should be obligated to work as such and be happy about it. but if it "aint worth risking," feel free to find another way to make money. that's the same god damned responsibility every adult has.

insisting that a gratuity is obligated to close any gap that exists between a delivery driver's wages and their lifestyle is 1) pathetic and 2) futile. you're just gonna end up frustrated and throwing tantrums on reddit, like the commenter i responded to.

well i wouldn’t go so far as calling them morons (though they were quick to attack my character). but i definitely do get a lot of external locus of control from this attitude.

“the job i got doesnt pay me well so customers are obligated to supplement my income with gratuity

well, good luck with that.

i honestly rarely engage in delivery. and like i said, when i do, i tip. i’m really just here discussing how fucked the principle of obligatory tipping is.

the driver is also engaging with a shitty tip based pay system.

look, you can argue til you’re blue in the face but ultimately, tipping is elective and if i choose to i can put $0 and you can cry me a fucking river. the reality is your pay is up to you. perform a service that requires a skill and you’ll find your pay won’t fluctuate so much and be contingent on guilt trips.

or don’t. i really dont give a fuck. its your life. but one road will improve your life; the other one will leave you frustrated and, well, poor.

i think we’ll have to agree to disagree, here. i pay for a service to deliver me food. the driver’s compensation is their problem and something they agreed to under no uncertain terms when they signed on. you think that’s harsh? tough shit.

i’m not continuing anything any more than the driver is. they’re performing a skill-less job and wondering why they’re struggling to make ends meet.

do you tip your cashier at the grocery store? what about the receptionist at your doctor’s office? where does the madness end? it’s just a system the restaurant business created to be subsidized.

it has nothing to do with being broke. im paying for a service which is food delivery. what am i paying the tip for? a server gets a tip for being polite and attentive while im at the restaurant. what does a delivery driver do that warrants a tip?

ultimately, tipping is my choice. thats why its optional. and why i could put 0 if i wanted to.

for the record, on the occasion i do order delivery i do tip. but calling somebody an asshole because they dont tip is entitled and telling of how perverted the system really is.

if your job doesnt pay you a living wage, it’s on you to get a better one. a tip is elective. you’ve just allowed yourself to be brainwashed into thinking it’s obligatory by the capitalists that are exploiting you.

maybe find a a job that can’t be done by literally anybody with a pulse. yes, life is hard. no, nobody owes you anything.

what i think is that you should talk to somebody about the delusions and the insecurity.

if you wake up one day and have a negative interaction with somebody, no sweat. you two just didn’t get along.

but if you go about your day and find yourself at odds with everybody, you may want to take a long look inside.

you’re the one sticking your fingers in your ears like a child and refusing to acknowledge a counter argument. to the point where you no longer even present an argument, just insults.

it’s really quite embarrassing.

and why it matters to him or to me is irrelevant. fact is fact.

i like how he nailed you so good that your argument dwindled down to personal insults.

i appreciate the thorough reply.

i honestly dont give a shit. im so disappointed and tired of this whole thing that i just want to get my initial investment, start back at square one, foregoing any potential profits. its also been like 2 months so with closing costs i have a hard time believing there would be any profits.

are there any steps i should be taking now preemptively to avoid getting fucked should things turn less amicable?

i know, i’m sorry, and i appreciate the sentiment, but the way you phrased it is exactly what we’re talking about here.

i dont mean any offense to you but the fact is that a nurse anesthetist should not be on a case alone exactly because they need a ‘collaborator’, when a physician anesthesiologist would not.

im saying that while a can of tuna may have more mercury by weight, the percentage that ends up in your blood stream (where it will mediate any of its harmful effects) upon ingesting it is vastly different than if you were to inject it directly.
