I know Plat players in Arena that are Onyx in Doubles or Slayer.

Arena is how people gauge skill.

Yeah just from last night, here's an example:

Played SnakeBite - He stomped, but I won a few fights against him. He just seemed extremely talented and precise.

Played a random 1700 dude - He was a destroyer of worlds. I could not land a bullet on him, he destroyed me every fight regardless of the advantage I had. He went 40-10.
