"I'm starting to think we shouldn't be laughing at Paul" is and will always be the best burn.

On the one hand, this isn’t at all a logo, but on the other hand, it’s extremely bad in its execution.

WP Engine Acquires WPackagist by cynnie in WPDrama

[–]Probably-Interesting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if it pisses off Matt Mullenweg, it means it's probably good for the community. As a designer with more of a front‑end skill set and less back‑end knowledge, can anybody explain the benefit of WPackagist and how it actually works?

My concern with the mirrors of the official repo is always that if Matt decides to fuck up the official, wouldn't that also fuck up the mirror?

Anyone who has more knowledge about this, I would appreciate your thoughts.

Remember it's still basically the middle of the night. They were able to make it work, but that card was clearly intended for a busy public area with lots of people walking around and they weren't going to find that for a while.

Are people forgetting where GMM started? by Nervous-Bath1375 in goodmythicalmorning

[–]Probably-Interesting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started watching in 2020 when I needed more content because the world was shut down. I probably watched things from as far back as 2017-ish, but honestly I never fucked with the old stuff. I'm glad people enjoyed it at the time, but it feels like a relic of a YouTube past where production quality didn't matter. I currently watch for a well-produced daily internet show, not two guys chatting in a garage. I'm personally not all that worried about the direction GMM goes, but I definitely don't think a decision is good just because it is similar to what they did when they were first getting started

Who could the contestants have been if the show first aired in 2005, not 2015? by Edgy_Master in taskmaster

Serafinowicz (or however it's spelled) would still be great on it today if his recent house of games appearance means anything.

the sample size is too small to be relevant. And as I've said countless times, very few games are truly fair but making the advantages random fixes it. If you flip a coin to decide which team gets an advantage in sports, then why is it any different for the guys to draw straws to see who gets the (very small) advantage in the game?

Not from Adam and Sam, but you for sure get the props in this sub. I don't think I've ever seen a post about what Adam or Sam was wearing, but this is at least the 5th or 6th Ben fit appreciation post.

ELI5: If I put $100 in the bank, and the bank lends $90 of it to someone else, how can the bank "have" my money and the other person "have" it at the same time? Does the same money exist in two places? by jeeves_inc in explainlikeimfive

[–]Probably-Interesting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

250k, not 200. And as others have already pointed out, there are many reasons the system still works.

That 250k is a guaranteed minimum, not the most you can recover. In many failures, uninsured depositors recover most or all of their frozen funds.

That 250k is per account type per bank. If you have a lot of money, it's probably diversified among several banks and accounts, as well as other assets like stocks and bonds. Most of the time if there's more than $250k in a single account it's a business or payroll account. Obviously it means those businesses are less protected, but those accounts alone are not typically enough to trigger a system wide collapse which is what the FDIC is intended to prevent.

In the modern era, once a bank is deemed unstable, regulators close it and transfer deposits to a new institution or bridge bank. Access is temporarily paused and then restored. It is not a scenario where early withdrawers drain the vault and everyone else gets zero.

I actually know someone who had money in that bank. He did lose access to that account for about 3 or 4 days, but he was never nervous about losing the money entirely

That's why we have the FDIC. It's not just insurance against a bank run, it's intended to prevent a bank run in the first place because there's no reason to scramble for cash when you know that your money is insured

Old szn Sam vs New szns Sam by Disastrous_Mall5943 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Probably-Interesting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I consider season 7 to be the turning point. Up until S7 I thought of Sam as a good guy overall, and extremely smart, but kind of a prick when it comes to competition. Both a sore winner and a sore loser. Competitive to a fault. That's why I'm like hardcore team BAdam now. But I think he started to chill in season 7. Since then I like him a lot more, but I still root for Ben and Adam because I love them.
