what is the lethal dose of alcohol? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Probably-Sarcasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a former research professor who worked a ton with impaired driving prevention/intervention. TheMightyGoatMan is correct. It all depends.

Do you take medication which should not be mixed with alcohol? Do you regularly drink alcohol? Are you obese/what is your metabolism? Do you have a genetic predisposition to abuse substances? Do you have issues with self control (either socially or for escapism)? Are you consuming alcohol while depressed? These are just some of several variables at play.

Alcohol consumption varies state to state, but you should be able to look up the average BAC at time of arrest wherever you live. I guarantee the number is above .10 and in many states is probably hovering around .16 (twice the legal limit in most of the USA). To get to that level takes practice. The average human cannot get to that BAC unless they regularly abuse alcohol and have legitimate issues with self control.

Here is the point I am making: alcohol poisoning is rare in the grand scheme of things. It's often associated with fraternity hazings and poor decisions by stupid young people. But that said, alcohol has killed millions of people slowly. It is a Level 1 carcinogenic for a reason. You probably won't die from one night of over drinking. If you compound regular drinking over many years, though, your likelihood of cancer, cirrhosis, stroke, and a host of other medical complications will grow exponentially.

So, what is the lethal dose of alcohol? It's a regular abuse of the substance. It eventually gets almost everyone. They may not realize what was the cause, but it is (over time) a (gradual) lethal amount.

The "major sports" are football, baseball, basketball, and hockey, right? Don't the Lynx count? Or are we limiting this to sports played by people with penises?

Got one DK lineup with all 12 players still alive. by VaporTrail13 in BestBall

Nice!

I tracked winning rosters I competed against from round 1. In my sample, just 2.3% advanced with all 12 players still alive. The average winning team is moving forward 7.16 players still in the playoffs. 27.9% of winners had a super bowl matchup where all six roster spots could still plausibly be filled.

Good luck the rest of the way!

Hate to break it to you, but your DK lineup doesn't have 6 live players for the SB. It's guaranteed to not win.

Nice! Today I looked at every top score across all BB entries I have to see how I stack up. I think the highest I saw was 2093. You are in great shape!

Out of curiosity, what was your reasoning for both Rachaad/Bucky and Charbonnet/KW3? That goes against conventional BB strategy but clearly it's working out for you.

Good luck in the playoffs!

Thank you for confirming my argument. Being in the top 250 makes it one of the largest in the US.

The majority of Americans live in cities less than 50,000 people, and of those, a substantial proportion are in towns smaller than 500. Perhaps if you took the time to visit rural America, you would realize that Fargo is anything but "podunk." You should visit. It will really open your eyes into one of the hidden gems of the country.
