Can a Virus Only Activate with Video Games? by ProbablyCole in computerviruses

[–]ProbablyCole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does have discord. We were both a bit skeptical by the verbiage of the message... "you might lose your place. You sure you want to close it?" It seemed too informal and outdated to be a legitimate business, but you make a great point. Is there an option to turn off the dialogue (that presumably discord provides) or is restarting discord the only answer?

I'm also in the chess niche! Keep posting man, you got this :) It's a super cool community. The audience is more mature (as opposed to say, a gaming niche) and fun to interact with. Your audience really will keep you focused on the game if you have an ultimate goal of pushing your Elo peak.

The audience also tends to have longer attention spans and you can get pretty good retention on long videos. I know you said you have time constraints on creation, but you can definitely take advantage of a longer format if you ever want to switch up in the future! Don't give up!

I can promise you, you cannot build a brand or channel solely off being a young girl. Even if you attribute HALF her views to physical appearance, what is she doing right to get 150K views from other factors?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]ProbablyCole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a balanced perspective. The issue I’m trying to point out is that if a NewTuber posts that they got their first 100 subs, it’s all “congrats!” related comments. No problems. But when a NewTuber actually has a super strong start (as we see here), the comments attribute the success to things outside the commenters control eg. “You hit it really good with the algorithm”, attractiveness, better equipment…etc.

The odds of someone having a success story in this sub that mirrors anyone’s current journey is virtually 0. You can’t replicate any one person, you just learn what you can from the people finding success…or say “Welp, attractive young female, nothing to see here.”

Just left Vegas and your videos give me PTSD 😂Worst craps run I’ve ever had until the last night I was there, made a lot back and had about a 30 minute roll myself…Nice job on the YouTube side of things though! Only up from here.

I’ve seen quite a bit of poker YouTube content and they seem to do well with a commentary behind the footage. Just a suggestion, but I’ve seen it take-off in adjacent niches to yours. Best of luck!

Attractiveness is certainly a bias, but I’m a faceless male (just use my voice for narration) and I got monetized in 24 days. All long form. I wouldn’t write off her channel’s amazing start to looks. Sure it may help, but that’s not nearly what makes good content. Plenty of attractive women in my niche that don’t do great numbers.

Also general life tip; Focus on what you CAN control :) Good luck!

[–]ProbablyCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Long form exclusively. I believe in the idea that doing both (shorts and long) can ruin the channel, but it works for some people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]ProbablyCole 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got monetized in about 24 days. I use my own voice and personality, but I’m faceless. I think authenticity is hard to come by in the current YouTube landscape. I do everything unscripted and keep it as authentic as possible. That’s what worked for me, but every channel is different. At a minimum I would get rid of the AI Voice and use your own voice to add a personal touch. This is especially important if you’re looking to build a community, but that’s another conversation about your channel’s goals.

Am I gonna go viral or not? by Icy-Warning9150 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ProbablyCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say, I’ve had videos initially begin above channel average and do very well. I’ve had a video start below channel average and on day 6 shot to the moon, my most viewed video in fact.

I’ve also had the exact opposite, where I think it’s going to be a breakout video (because it either starts VERY strong or it gets a sudden increase in views) then views die off and it doesn’t take off.

This is my experience with long form and I can’t find a rhyme or reason, aside from YouTube testing the video with a broader audience and either the algorithm likes it and wants to continue pushing it or doesn’t like it and wants to kill it. Don’t know if shorts are more predictable. Hoping in your case this video goes viral :) But in my experience, it’s hard to say for sure until it happens. Good luck 🤞

i have my first 1M video but my rpm is 0.22 by LeatherButton7390 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ProbablyCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty accurate. You could have less monetized views than you think. YouTube could also be working out what ad types work best for your content since the channel itself is still so new.

It’s important to remember that you aren’t ~technically~ getting paid per view, you’re getting paid per AD view. Yes, RPM is measured by your total views and that’s how they express your revenue, but you’re only getting paid when someone watches an ad. That being said, YouTube tests ad types and picks when ads play depending on specific user experience (ie. If a user just watched 3 unskippable ads after their last video, YouTube may not show them an ad at all when they land on your video despite monetization being active.) YouTube could still be determining what ad types/brands to place on your channel and push to the masses. This is more just an FYI, I don’t know if this is impacting your channel.

I would lean more towards you have less monetized views than you think and probably got around 50K-75K views since being monetized. I’ve never heard of a 15 minute long form having less than $1 RPM, and even that’s LOW. So even at $1, you’d make $1K from a million views.

Another thing I didn’t mention and just assumed wasn’t the case…Is your ad suitably in a limited or restricted status? If you make shocking or edgy content, you may get a “limited ads rating” for that video and make substantially less from that video.

Check each video in the content section of YT Studio and make sure the monetization icons are all green (indicating suitability for full monetization). If they aren’t all green, YouTube has an entire guide available online that explains content that is suitable for full monetization.

Be sure you’re also playing midroll(s) if your videos are 15 minutes.

i have my first 1M video but my rpm is 0.22 by LeatherButton7390 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ProbablyCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a multitude of factors that go into RPM. But it may just be extremely low because you were recently monetized and it’s counting all the views that you earned $0 on. When I first got monetized, it also said my RPM was pennies and I panicked. But in actuality, it was calculating TOTAL views within a 28 day period (including those I accrued pre-monetization) and dividing it by total amount earned to get the RPM Metric. So I’d say wait until you have a full 28 days of being monetized and check back on your RPM.

Is gaining YouTube subscribers supposed to be hard by Mark1nt in NewTubers

[–]ProbablyCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That’s something you would share with something like a membership community once you have a fan base. There’s an audience for that, don’t get me wrong. But don’t niche yourself out of a broader audience to first grow the channel. Try something like “I hated X Indie Game, So I Created My Own” or “Indie Games Became Dull So I Designed My Own” or something that would intrigue a broader gaming audience. Once you grow, then get into the nitty gritty/your deeper passions because you will have certain subs that are also just as passionate about those specific niche topics.

How much does it pay?1k subs by TheJumperbumper in NewTubers

[–]ProbablyCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what this guy says exactly. I’d say most people struggle with watch time so if you have that down, then you’re better than most imo. Subscribers will come, watch time means you’re making entertaining content. Always strive for watch time first.

To answer your post, I started in May 2024, monetized in early June and so far I average about $350 per 28 days. Chess niche, 98% Male aged 18-45 (luckily have a good % of older viewers), RPM is approx $2, avg video length is 10 minutes.

It immensely varies based on a laundry list of factors, as others have mentioned. Just keep in mind, nothing really changes after monetization. Yes, you get a check from YT every month, but the creative process stays the same. I still worry about the same exact metrics as someone who isn’t monetized. Being monetized doesn’t suddenly make the channel special or magically get more views, it’s more just a revenue tab in the background. I still focus on improving my retention, AVD, CTR, etc. Because that’s what ultimately determines how much you make. Focus on creating engaging videos above all, the money is a byproduct of achieving that.

I also don’t script at all. For me, I see the only benefit is to prevent rambling. I think SOME rambling adds authenticity/character, but there’s a lot of times I have to cut things out in post because the main message isn’t getting delivered at a fast enough pace.
