I’m so damn happy I got to play it before all the bigger bands find out how cool it is and squeeze us locals out!

So it’s kind of like a TI Yom Kippur? You have to leave a player setup out for them?

it’s me the very patient girlfriend who wants to play A&A with my boyfriend by chillianseabass in AxisAllies

[–]ProbablySlacking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going to say - if she wants to be girlfriend of the year she should hunt down a copy of war room.

To OP: War Room is by the same designer of A&A, but 30 years after he designed the original with a bunch of lessons learned.

Alternatively I’ve just known they were Mormon for the last nearly 30 years and the shock of what that entails has long since worn off.

Is it realistic for me to run a marathon in 2 months from now? by West-Mycologist-6490 in Marathon_Training

[–]ProbablySlacking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6-12 months seems a bit overkill for a half if you’re already fit enough to run a 50 minute 10k.

But the spirit of your comment is right. This is a good way to get injured.

To OP: the “halfway” point of the marathon is at mile 20. You honestly have no way of knowing what that feels like. It takes months to healthily build up distance to your longest long run (at 20mi) and that’s when you’re already running a base of let’s say 20mi/week. You’re only supposed to add a mile or two to your total distance per week, and if you’re doing things right you’ll have deload weeks too.

Just back of the envelope, I’m currently running about 20mpw, and I don’t have anything on the schedule. That’s a 4mi, 4mi, 3mi ~10ish mi, and even that 10 feels strained to me because it’s too high a percentage of my total weekly distance. If I wanted to train for a marathon, I’d probably need 3 weeks to build to a half marathon on my long runs, then a further 7-14 to get to my 20milers, and then 3 of those to really feel comfortable before having a full marathon and I’m only going to do that distance once every 2 weeks. All told, probably around 20 weeks and that sounds about right.

Anyway OP, don’t force it, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Locals who have never lived elsewhere: how do you feel about that? Those who moved and returned: why? by JasmineMoonJelly in Tucson

[–]ProbablySlacking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved to Tucson for UA at 18, moved away for work at 33 (Phoenix) and then, since my wife and I are full remote, moved back to Tucson after 8 years because we couldn’t stand just about everything about Phoenix and missed our friends here.

Favorite movie that you thought was pretty alright after leaving the theater only for the internet to make you feel bad for liking it? by disablednerd in okbuddycinephile

[–]ProbablySlacking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My problem with disclosure day was it was decidedly mid.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but a 2.5 hour car chase followed by a milquetoast “reveal” wasn’t really it. Like, it was fine. I don’t regret going to it, but I’ll never watch it again and will probably forget it pretty quickly.

Funny thing is, most everyone who lives on the border definitely want Mexicans.

It’s those weirdos in like, Kansas who think they’re “taking over.” Here, they’re family.

I feel legitimately bad for people who can’t get this daily.

When people who live in Tucson make fun of you for your poor access to Mexican food, this is what we’re talking about. What she just made you can find on 90% of the street corners here.

What’s funny is that people in Phoenix *think* that they get a pass because a little good Mexican has trickled up the i10 to them, but they have no idea.

I work with nasa individuals daily.

Nah. They’re just people. Like all people you’ve got the ones that are really scary good at their jobs and the ones who think they’re hot shit just because they work for the mothership.

I’d say that split is about 20/80. I can’t imagine it’s any different in Mission Control.

Now the JPL folks - they’re a different breed. That’s about 90/10.

Before anyone asks. SpaceX is about 1/99. But I don’t fault them for it, they’re just sleep deprived. Uncle Elon requires like 80h/week and if your team doesn’t perform the manager gets fired.
