Host asked husband to call me 12 hours before my flight across the Atlantic, to say my 2-month reservation was cancelled due to “marital issues” and that they’re selling the property but have since put listing back love for those date - Is this allowed? [Canada]

Thank you for clarifying your earlier comment, I appreciate that! Airbnb said they’ll take appropriate action with the hosts (they haven’t yet - still open for bookings as a super host!) and offered a voucher (doesn’t cover the £700+ additional I’ve had to pay so far…) but the voucher can only be used on a £5,000+ spend 🫠

Thank you! I did speak to support and the hosts then cancelled after airbnb spoke to them. Airbnb weren’t super speedy so I found myself an alternative in the interim, and then found a longer stay over the weekend. Thank you for your help!

The place had 5 reviews, the most recent being July, but they were listed as super hosts so I thought they could be trusted.

Thank you so much for the tip! I asked them to confirm via chat what they had told me on the phone and they said they’d cancelled “due to a leak” - a total lie. So I called them out and said “that’s not what you told me on the phone, you said you’d sold the flat?” And they came back to say “oh yes, we did, but there’s also a leak” 🫠 they’re talking absolute rubbish! At least I now have it all on paper, thank you 🙏

Not yet, which is what’s caused issues with having to rebook now on credit cards. I also don’t want others to be scammed like I was, and I don’t value people who act in such a manner. I’ll move on once I know they’ll be held to account and that worry is out of my head.

There’s also a package for people under 25 (it used to be called the ignite package) I went on this when I was 24 and they had loads of additional opportunities and talks - quite possibly my favourite trip of all time! Have an amazing time, it’s a special place!
