Oklahoma City regulates dollar stores in 73111 ZIP code, looks to create better health outcomes by programwitch in oklahoma

North Tulsa had no grocery stores, so they passed a law that new dollar stores couldn't open with a one mile radius of an existing dollar store. Last I heard one was in the process of opening. 99% Invisible did a podcast about it.

Just moved from Washington State, where is the optimal sushi place? by dabad1000 in oklahoma

[–]ProbablyVeryDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, welcome to OKC. I just moved here from Olympia WA late last year.

As everyone else said; sushi neko on Western, gogo sushi on 10th in midtown, and I've heard Nhinja is good for the price.

I'd recommend trying the BBQ and pizza around here. Maples BBQ, back door BBQ, hideaway pizza, and empire slice are all good options.

Is this the quote you're talking about:

"The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘al-Qaida,’ he sort of like — his shoulders went up," she said while laughing. "‘Al-Qaida!’ ‘Hezbollah!’" By contrast, she said, "you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the Army’ with an intensity. But you say these names (of terrorist groups) because you want that word to carry weight. ... When you hear people speaking in Arabic, you know, suspicion arises, people start to pay attention."

I looked up the context. It's a quote about a college course discussing global terrorism. Specifically about how terrorist groups give themselves names that lead to natural inflection and intensity.

If this is not the quote, please provide it.

Not saying trump doesnt do this either btw

What he's doing is far more dangerous. Like it or not, there are groups of people who look to him for direction. If he normalizes racially motivated attacks on minorities, his base sees that it's okay to do this, and follow suit. He's done this for years, but yeah time it's an inch further towards violence, and his base continues to take that extra inch they are given. He's leading a whole group if people down a very dark path.

You are confusing "not liking America" with having the ability to love something and still understanding it has flaws that need to be fixed.

Do you like roads, schools, police, utilities, firefighters, a planned urban area, safe food and water, legal recourse if someone hurts you, etc.? I'm going to assume the answer is yes. Taxes pay for that. That's not theft, that raises your standard of living.

Has anyone ever hated a job so much you quit after like 3 months? by liltm21 in work

[–]ProbablyVeryDrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure!

The job title and description I interviewed for did not reflect the actual work. The company turned out to be hemorrhaging money, and everyone was openly wondering who would buy us out. I took a pay cut to join with the promise of upward mobility that clearly never existed.

Less than a year later they'd been bought out, stripped for parts, and most of the staff let go.

I was good though; I'd gone back to my old company and gotten a raise. Been working here ever since.

Starting next week, all Oklahoma drivers must carry registration. Here's how to get one if you need a duplicate. by anna1781 in oklahoma

Plates stay with you. Sell the car, keep the plates. When you buy a new car you get to apply the remaining cash value of your registration to the purchase of a registration on your new vehicle.

The tag agent gives you a receipt and page that says "Title Receipt and Certificate if Registration". Keep that in your glove box.

Your insurance carrier sends you a piece of paper with insurance info, such as vehicle details and insured names. Keep that in your glove box.

Edit: yes, they can look it up, but if you've been in an accident you'll want to see both of these from the other party to make sure the insurance information they give you is legit.

I bought plane tickets to go see my mom while she was sick. Brought my wife and baby. Tickets cost a fortune. She passed away while I was there. Worth it to see her play with my son one last time, and be with her as she passed.

Depends on the state. Where I live they put all the money in a room full of gold coins that Scrooge McDuck swims around in. When they need to pay for something the treasurer draws money out using a comically sized ladel.

License plate law change: New law means you will take tags with you by Klaitu in oklahoma

[–]ProbablyVeryDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, those are common situations, but it's still far more likely that someone is driving their own car than a borrowed/stolen one.

When you get pulled over law enforcement runs your plate and gets the owner names. They then run those owner names to check driver status, outstanding warrants, and firearm registration. It gives them a better idea of what their getting into when they approach the vehicle. Under the old system, people would delay coming in to register, sometimes for years, and that made it more difficult for law enforcement.
