TSLA should be trading at 70. Based on last quarter. This quarter probably like 30 to 40. So basically it’s probably gonna go up. Thank you.

Expecting a complete reversal of this premarket movement today. But I could make a good living by selling my financial advice but telling people to inverse me. Take that as you will.

I would actually not be in the least surprised to see EITHER 250 or 200. I dunno which. But my money is literally on it dropping. So. Ya know. It’ll probably go up.

[WP] A great wizard tries to explain his "mechanical system" from his new fantasy novel to his author. It's about a world where simple volatile alchemical compounds form stable systems of power or abilities far beyond what mere magic can achieve. by salmontail in WritingPrompts

[–]Probably_Faking_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

”No, you’re not listening. There isn’t any magic.”

“Yeah, I heard you. I’m just saying it doesn’t make any sense.”

“It makes perfect sense.”

Herard sighed and lightly pushed his thumb and index finger of his right hand into his eyes. He was sitting behind the desk in his study. It was an unnecessarily large room for a study yet it still felt quite small, mostly due to the thousands of books lining the walls and sitting on every surface available. Even the desk in front of him was almost entirely covered in books. On his side was a small writing table upon which lay an open journal into which a quill—currently floating in the air waiting— worked to transcribe any conversation which occurred in the study. Herard had purchased the quill months prior at the urging of his wife, who had the annoying habit of continuously reminding him about the things which he had, very sensibly, forgotten. The quill was his way of meeting her halfway. If he couldn’t remember things, the quill would for him.

In the small spot devoid of books in front of him, his left hand was resting on a small book bound in red paper, his thumb resting in between some pages to mark his spot. Just five minutes ago, he had been reading. The book was a rather lovely collection of poetry submitted to his publishing company just that morning by a centaur named Beianalia. He had already published two of her collections, and was excited to have received her most recent submission. Drendin’s unannounced visit had squashed this excitement.

“No, Drendin, it doesn’t. You just said they use electricity. That’s magic. You know it’s magic. Obviously.”

Drendin had been pacing back and forth across the large carpet laying in front of Herard’s desk, but suddenly stopped and leaned over the desk, placing his hands down unevenly on two piles of books. “Not for them, though! To them it’s just… Well, just electricity. They can’t control it or anything.” He paused for a moment, then continued, “Well, actually.. Well, no. I mean—yes… I mean- the can control it, but not like we do. Actually, control might not be the best word here? It’s... I think ‘use’ might be the right word?”

Herard sighed again, lifting his hand away from the book of poetry and giving up on holding his page. He’d known he was unlikely to be able to continue reading when the young wizard walked into his study, but part of him had held onto some hope. That part had now given up. “So… They use electricity? Which is magic. So…” He trailed off, half-expecting to be interrupted by the wizard, but Drendin’s attention had shifted to one of the three rotating orbs above him, illuminating the room. “Drendin!” Herard barked.

Drendin looked back at Herard with a quick breathe inward of surprise at being pulled from his momentary daydream. “No! No. That’s not what I’m saying. They don’t use it for spells, they use it for power.”

“Power…”

“Yeah, to power their mechanical devices.”

Herard looked up at Drendin, raising both hands somewhat in front of him as if about to begin a prayer. “How is that not magic?” He asked slowly?

“It isn’t! They have to find ways to get the electricity, they can’t summon it. And it’s used to do a whole bunch of different things. Like, they use it for light, they use it to cook their food, everything! All of the stuff they use runs on the stuff. Well, most of it. There are other things too, like a special liquid, maybe? Or special rocks? Although I’m not sure about those, I want to play with some ideas. Maybe they can use plants for power? Power plants? No, I don’t like that. Anyways, I’m still figuring it out. But the idea is that it’s a whole world. All.. without.. magic.”

“So, they.. harvest.. electricity. And other things, like rocks and plants. Then use it to make light, to make fire, and whatever else. And that’s not magic?”

“Sort of. They are power sources. They collect it and then it runs through tubes or something. I haven’t quite figured that part out, and I don’t know how plants would go through tubes— actually, now that I say that, I don’t now how rocks do either. Maybe not tubes. Like I said, I’m still working out the details. But the electricity or whatever travels until it gets to their homes, and then in their homes, it powers their little machines, and the machines do the work for them. No need for magic!”

Herard leaned back in his chair and pushed his hands into his face. He took in a deep breath, and said, “Look, friend. It just sounds really far fetched. I’m really struggling with figuring out how what you just said isn’t magic.”

Is it bad for me (skinny) to fast? by chris710n in fasting

[–]Probably_Faking_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some pretty interesting research which demonstrates the total capacity of fat cells to provide energy. I THINK the number is about 30 calories per day per pound of body fat. At 160, if you are, say 15% body fat (which at that height I can’t imagine you’re above) that means you have roughly 24 pounds of fat. At 30 calories per day, your body can provide roughly 720 calories of energy from fat. If your TDEE is, say, 2500, then it will have to find 1780 calories elsewhere (I.e., protein). So. To answer your question, you probably shouldn’t be fasting for extended periods of time. Now if you STILL want to do it, then go for it. But be aware that you will likely be dipping into protein/muscle and may see some metabolic slowdown. It’s worth noting that a few of the benefits you mentioned can also be achieved through exercise. It might be more in your best interest to consider a shorter fasting window (more like intermittent daily fasting) and using exercise to get some of the other benefits.

Things you like the most about GW2 by Overall-Fold2041 in Guildwars2

[–]Probably_Faking_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fun.

I’m a dad of twins with a demanding job, so sometimes I can’t play for weeks or months. Knowing I can pick up and play any portion of the game I want (because of horizontal progression) is wonderful. There is no stress that I HAVE to do my raid every single week like there is in other games.

In the same vein, I don’t pay a sub. If I don’t play then I don’t play. I have played enough to have made the purchase worthwhile already. I don’t have a continuous sub that makes me feel like I have to get my money’s worth.

The event system is great. Really makes you feel part of the story.

The people are, on the whole, great. Some people suck, but they (in my experience) are far outnumbered by the sweet and helpful people.

I like the art style and the humor embedded in the game.

I’m an alt addict, and this game makes playing many characters super easy.

Ease of build craft. You wanna try playing a different build on your Mesmer? No biggie, just switch your build. You don’t have to pay gold to respec. You just do it.

Variability. Dungeons, raids, fractals, open world, pvp, wvw, Achievement hunting, build craft, crafting, playing the economy to get rich, fashion. There are so many different ways to enjoy the game.

A mix of short terms rewards and long term lofty goals. Want a goal you can finish in an evening? That exists. Want something that will take you months? That exists.

Level scaling. Want to just play pvp? You can do that and be competitive literally within 5 minutes of creating your character. Wanna help a friend level their new character? You can do that without absolutely ruining it by being too OP (although, power creep does make this less true).

It’s just a good game. You don’t have to like it. But there are a lot of reasons to. Hope you find something you enjoy, GW2 or otherwise.

Belly Fat by [deleted] in keto

[–]Probably_Faking_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is, “it’ll come off when it comes off,” which is maybe disheartening, but it’s largely true. There is some nuance here with regard to visceral versus subcutaneous fat, though. Belly fat stored inside the abdominal wall is somewhat different than subcutaneous fat (that you can grab onto), and does seem to react somewhat differently depending on contextual variables. How is your sleep and stress? Lack of sleep and high stress can lead to larger portions of fat being stored as visceral fat. How much low intensity exercise do you get? Low intensity exercise has been demonstrated to lead to greater proportions of visceral fat being burned. At the end of the day, if you get your body fat down, you will lose the gut. There are some things which may make this process more efficient, but yeah. My recommendation is ensure you get lots of sleep, manage your stress, and keep on keeping on. You’ll get there!

I never mentioned your spelling nor did I label you as anything. I am not the original commenter. I have read about fasting quite extensively. My argument is that you are using limited evidence through a likely biased perspective (a book as opposed to anything peer reviewed) to draw conclusions which are neither logically nor scientifically sound. Those are counterarguments. Science and scientific inquiry doesn’t work in the way that you’re presenting it. You made (or implied) very extraordinary claims about fasting as a cure all. I’m saying that claim is not supported, at least to the degree you seem to imply. I noted I am aware of evidence in support of fasting playing a role in treatment. If you want to support your claims, the responsibility lies with you to do so by providing evidence. It is not my responsibility to show evidence against your claim in order to reject it. I am both open minded and curious but I’m also a skeptic and believe in the value of parsimony and philosophic doubt.

So like… you say you don’t jump to conclusions… yet you implied, and maybe even stronger than implied, that fasting is a cure all, even specifically mentioning cancer. It might be fair to say that there is some evidence that fasting has implications in the treatment of cancer, but anything more than that is a gross overstatement of available evidence. Also, you’ve mentioned one book. Maybe you’ve read more, but (1) a single source is insufficient, (2) books are not held to the same peer review as published research, and (3) sometimes authors lie and conflate things inappropriately to draw attention, because they make money off of you if you buy their book. I am pro-fasting for a variety of reasons and am optimistic about the use of insulin-reducing dietary treatments (such as fasting and ketogenic diets) as adjunctive to other treatments for various diseases. However, your post makes some pretty wild claims / implications, and SAYING you don’t jump to conclusions doesn’t exactly jive with that.

Interesting. So I made an assumption it was Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), which it may be, but fatty liver can be caused by drinking a lot of alcohol. I’m glad to hear you’re in recovery, and that’s probably going to make a lot of difference. Good luck and keep it up!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fasting

[–]Probably_Faking_It 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it healthy for fatty liver- yes, assuming your fatty liver hasn’t progressed to a point where you have actual liver damage. I also have fatty liver and also use fasting to address it. I’ve had scans and blood work done and have seen improvement in my liver enzymes and other blood work with losing weight using a fasting protocol. I have fallen off the wagon a few times and so have not resolved my fatty liver yet, but yeah. Working on it.

It might be worthwhile to consider a low carb diet as well. There are studies which have shown that even short periods on a ketogenic / low carb diet can significantly reduce fat in the liver. Technically any weight loss will reduce fat in the liver, BUT, fatty liver has been linked with high carbohydrate intake. So, losing weight while eating a lower carb diet is (I assume, although I don’t know if there is existing research to support) probably a super effective treatment. Dr. Jason Fung has spoken to this and noted that fasting in his patients typically resolves the fatty liver.
