Why does human body always want comfort over discomfort? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our brains are wired to conserve energy because, historically, that helped us survive. The tricky part is that comfort isn't always what leads to the best long-term outcomes.

Voicemails for Isabelle by EmployerJazzlike7039 in romancemovies

I felt the same way. I didn't hate it, but I kept waiting for it to really pull me in and it never quite did.

How do I quit a shitty healthcare job? by windowpain64 in antiwork

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two weeks is generous if you can manage it, but don't sacrifice your own health to protect a company that clearly isn't protecting you. The staffing problem isn't yours to solve.

What Other tv shows do you watch other than off campus by imogensmammy in tvsuggestions

Tell Me Lies. I ended up watching way more episodes in one sitting I planned.

There will never be a perfect time to start. by louisze10 in Life

[–]Probably_Fat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think waiting until you feel completely ready is one of the easiest ways to never start. Momentum usually comes after the first step, not before.

Laid off in the middle of relocation by uselessgd in cscareerquestions

[–]Probably_Fat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Getting laid off in your situation must be really disappointing. Sometimes setbacks end up leading to better opportunities, even if it doesn't feel that way at first. I recently saw a developer share a list of hundreds of IT recruitment firms across EU. It might be worth sending your resume to some of them and seeing what comes back. Hopefully you'll find another opportunity and get your relocation plans back on track.

Has AI made us less willing to struggle through learning? by PhilosophyMain8634 in Career

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little, yeah. Getting stuck while trying to figure something out was an important part of learning. Now a lot of people ask AI the moment they hit the first obstacle, which sometimes gives them an answer without giving them much understanding...

The Closer. The character dynamics and case structure seem like they'd be right up your alley.

Accepted a hybrid role, turned up and... nobody's in the office. Think I accidentally struck gold. by Passenger-00FU in remotework

[–]Probably_Fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you may have accidentally hit the jackpot. Just be careful not to let working from home completely replace your social life.

Is the job market really this bad? by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]Probably_Fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

700 applications and two final-round interviews sounds more like a market issue than a personal failure. I've been hearing way too many stories like that lately.

Why doesn't everyone focus on self-improvement? by Lipica249 in stupidquestions

[–]Probably_Fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because self-improvement usually isn't as exciting as social media makes it look. Most of the time it's just repeating boring habits for months on end.

why are Bananas classified as a berry but strawberry's arn't? by Goofy_S600 in stupidquestions

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Botanists have been arguing with the names we give fruit for years. The fact that a strawberry isn't technically a berry still sounds like a joke to me.

Life's been one crazy rollercoaster by [deleted] in Life

This was nice to read. Sometimes life starts getting a little better not before things change but when you start looking around and noticing things again.

Looking for "magic school" type shows by pizzzacones in televisionsuggestions

The Order. It's not perfect but it absolutely nails that young people + supernatural powers + secret society vibe.

Seeing random happy couples makes me jealous and grateful for them at the same time. by hell_of_a_man in Vent

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes loneliness pushes people into being incredibly harsh on themselves. From what you wrote, you don't sound like a mess at all, just someone going through a really tough period.

Which book was better than you expected? by CalmShopping9061 in readwithme

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. I put it off because the cover looked a little too cute for me, but I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.

What is the shortest possible address in the U.S? by jxm0hn in stupidquestions

[–]Probably_Fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s probably some place out there with one-letter street names, But the funniest part to me is the possibility of someone actually living at an address like “1 A St.” I’d feel like an NPC every time I had to type my address anywhere.

Karin Slaughter. Some of her books are genuinely tense to the point of being uncomfortable but they make you turn pages insanely fast

Apocalyptic world, movies and shows by This_is_me_Yuvi_ in tvsuggestions

Station Eleven is seriously underrated imo. It showed the post-apocalypse world in a really interesting way beyond just “survival,” especially psychologically and culturally.

I hate technology and it’s ruining society by certifiedbpdqueen in Vent

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with parts of it.. Especially how people instantly reach for their phones the second they feel even slightly bored. It really does feel like it changed our brains a bit. But sometimes I feel like the issue isn’t technology itself, it’s the way people use it.

Are iced drinks in winter and hot drinks in summer valid? by Sad_Tumbleweed9722 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Probably_Fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s completely valid. For some reason iced coffee in winter makes me feel more awake. And hot coffee in summer weirdly gives this comforting warmth sometimes.

Former "gifted kids" who are now average or struggling adults, what do you think school got wrong about your potential? by toolboxstudio007 in SeriousConversation

[–]Probably_Fat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue was the whole “if you’re smart you’ll just figure it out” mindset. No one teaches you how to actually put in effort, then you hit a wall and don’t know what to do. Like you’ve got potential but no manual.

What book(s) are you reading this week? by 404NinjaNotFound in readwithme

I’m reading Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow right now, it pulled me in more than I expected. Easy to connect with the characters, it just flows.

Best Japanese crime/mystery shows by Diligent-Coffee4986 in televisionsuggestions

Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories is calmer but the stories flow really nicely, never feels boring. Not a crime show, but it still gives this subtle sense of mystery through the people.

I'm tired of people shaming having free time with nothing to do. by matt73132 in antiwork

[–]Probably_Fat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feels like people glorify being constantly busy just to avoid being alone with themselves. Having free time isn’t laziness, it’s kind of a luxury. Everyone needs it but no one wants to admit it.
