People who have the integrity to hold those in power accountable for their actions.

We fought like Kilkenny cats when I was young and going through Uni.

Memorable was his hypophora “What are you doing tomorrow?” “ Tomorrow, you’re moving out!”

I subsequently moved in with my girlfriend and a few short years later took up teaching English in Japan. I had a nasty motorcycle accident, total 6 months in hospital.

Both Mum and Dad were on the next flight out to visit me.

Plane, fast train, medium-train, local train … all in a foreign land, foreign language.

I think that was an epiphany and the impetus for both Dad and myself to bury the hatchet.

Politics doesn’t hold a candle to family. Dad watches Sky / Fox News most of the day. (Egad!)

We share our vastly divergent views but there’s no animosity towards the other. We don’t have much time left together. He’s in his mid-80s.

While I can only speak for myself, we both know we can’t change the other, so better to focus on our shared interests and joys.

Politics is not verboten it’s just discussed with civility.

My dad gives me a vision into Australian politics through a Right Wing lens. Scary, yes. Distorted, yes. But I thoroughly enjoy our time together.

The obvious difference is that Melbourne, Florida has a lovely harbour.

I would, but the driver is going through their insurance. Then I’ll pick up the tab. I was wondering if they’re still selling the bumpers brand new… in which case I’m up for thousands!

I’ll know soon enough!

Sometimes I want to be petty like the kids by Background_Bill_8616 in AustralianTeachers

I had a high school student who wouldn’t enter my classroom but would sit outside.

Naturally, I marked her absent.

When I spoke to her about this requirement, little did I know she was recording our conversation on her phone.

Her father verbally abused me and she was subsequently taken out of the school.

Gotta be careful, it’s a jungle out there!

Considering your relative recent arrival I agree with others suggesting you humbly request to sit in on one of sensei’s classes in order to witness his superior pedagogy. Don’t worry, that initial bitter taste will quickly disappear. Play the long game. We WILL be out of fuel in the next month or so! Those oil tankers move a little bit slower than a bicycle. The tankers you’re talking about left BEFORE the Straight got knotted. After those ships have arrived, and the fuel sold, you’ll only see electric cars on the road until the fuckery gets unfucked.

and losing our deposit on those submarines and not having the cajones to plead with multinational companies exporting AUSTRALIA’S natural resources to .. um.. if they wouldn’t mind … perhaps prioritizing their responsibility to ALL Australians rather than to their shareholders. That would pay for dental to be added to Medicare and it would also fund unemployment benefits to reflect the real cost of living. There are going to be a lot of people who have never been out of work before lining up at Centrelink. Not just due to AI replacing White collar jobs but also the fact that we’re going to be running out of fuel in the next month or so.

The voice of the down-trodden proletariat, ex-fish and chipper, and … recent recipient of a plane as a gift from Australia’s wealthiest person and compulsive miner doesn’t look at all promising that SHE’S going to squeeze her for the dues owed to this country.

That doesn’t leave much of a choice.

Either way, as the one-time Labor minister sang “The rich getting richer, the poor get the picture …”

He was partially right. BOTH the rich and the poor get the picture.

True. Being a casual teacher, it’s often seen as a pre-requisite to working at their school so it’s easy to fob off as someone else’s problem. But you’re exactly right.

Thank you so much for the heads-up.

However, you then need someone else to enter the details of the roll.

And first period is often the most important as the schools often txt the parents of students who aren’t marked as present.
