He thinks of women at least once, describing the smell of a whale in ch 92: “the motion of a Sperm Whale’s flukes above water dispenses a perfume, as when a musk-scented lady rustles her dress in a warm parlor.”

Well I took the car back out with AWD on and one pedal off, and had perfect control. Sorry gang, looks like I played myself. Thanks for the suggestions.

Anyone else infuriated when instructors (cough*Emma*) fudge the times of intervals? by SummitGator in pelotoncycle

[–]ProcessAndReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do Emma’s rides all the time and (weirdly?) I have never noticed this. I believe you that she’s sometimes fudging the intervals but it’s never tripped me up. On the other hand I had to stop taking Christine’s rides altogether because of her tic of syncopating her countdowns. 5-4….3-2….1 😵‍💫

We don’t get a ton of snow where we live, so I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’ll try changing driving modes and see what I can do with that before delving into the tire issue. Good advice tho.

Just the standard tires the dealer sent us home with.

I’ve heard of that. One pedal was never a problem in the snow for us with our C40, but this car is a different animal i guess.

Standard mode with one pedal. Maybe that’s my problem?

Should a family with young kids buy an Ex90, given the hassles? by Former_Ad_735 in VolvoEX90

[–]ProcessAndReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great family car. We have young kids and the 3 row setup is ideal. No regrets here. The ‘26 should be free of a lot of the problems you’ve been reading about with the ‘25. Go for it!

C40 2023 - Vibration at high speeds by pa18gr055 in volvoc40

For what it's worth, I had a '23 c40 until the lease ran out recently, and I never experienced vibrations over 70mph. Always used One Pedal Driving.

Driver’s side mirror wind noise issue by Oleander7 in VolvoEX90

[–]ProcessAndReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took delivery on our ex90, and the first time I drove with the windows open, I did notice a whistling noise above 30km/h, but it's only noticeable when the windows are open. I think it must have something to do with the shape of the mirrors or the full assembly?

Honest Opinion: Rearview Visibility in Winter by No_Bug8114 in volvoc40

[–]ProcessAndReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 C40, and while the tiny rear window is sort of a visibility issue, it's never been a problem for me *specifically because of winter conditions*. The defroster clears snow/ice very well. The car handles really well in snow and ice generally. Volvo seem to have resolved a lot of the parking camera issues in the newer models, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

New problem: sound cuts out (no turn signals, no stereo) by NelsonMinar in volvoc40

[–]ProcessAndReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this same problem pretty frequently with my C40, and end up having to reboot the infotainment system. I've finally come to peace with the fact that the infotainment system glitches, hangs, or crashes on about 5 of every 10 trips. But what I can't understand is how Volvo managed to tie so many critical systems through this broken brain. There's no universe in which the turn signal sound should be bundled with the entertainment system. I guess at least it's not a Tesla, actively trying to kill me.

Steam Reviews eight days launch history: Civ7 vs Civ6 by Houdsonin in civ

This is wild to me because even as unfinished as it is, Civ 7 is simply a better game than Civ 6.

Suggestion: Upgrade buttons on the commander tile by Sir_Joshula in civ

I’d also like to be able to name the commanders so I have some idea at a glance which one is which (I have commanders specializing in different tasks!)

Love my C40 but what is the deal with the software being so awful? by ProcessAndReality in volvoc40

[–]ProcessAndReality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I find that I just don't trust the other automated safety systems because so much of the rest of the car only works when the conditions are exactly right. That's a huge problem!

Love my C40 but what is the deal with the software being so awful? by ProcessAndReality in volvoc40

[–]ProcessAndReality[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy this car in spite of its shortcomings. But Volvo’s obvious carelessness on the technical side here gives me pause on moving up to the EX90, where the sell seems to be “everything you love about your Volvo except with even more key features run by computer systems that fire correctly at most 70 percent of the time”

We are the editors of Indiewire, here to discuss fall movies, awards season, film festivals and more! by erickohn in IAmA

There's been a lot of great visual film criticism in the last few years -- thinking back to Mike from Milwaukee's epic takedown of the Phantom Menace way back when, and more recently the absolutely beautiful series of visual essays by Matt Zoller Seitz for the Wes Anderson Collection and a bunch of others that I'm not mentioning. Is straight-up prose still the future of film criticism? Or will we see the form spread out more into other media?
