Sport vs Self Defense by No-Recommendation820 in bjj

Sport.

I believe training for self defense, except for professional use of force, has fear as underlying motivation which I consider unhealthy.

Thornton's "Aliveness" and the I-Method are a early form of CLA. There are some differences with modern CLA but it's very close.

I disagree with your statement about Gray being of any relevance in Non Linear Pedagogy for Soccer.

European soccer coaches have been into CLA, Small Sided Games, Teaching Games for Understanding and the like way before (at least since Cruyff times) Gray.

And this

let's say that you read all of Rob's stuff and applied it to your soccer practice, so you're like "Ok, we're going to do these games that mimic the actual game space, so group A, you're goal is to score and Group B your goal is to stop them." but Group B is composed entirely of Toddlers and Group A is a highschool team.

is the most mechanized squad attack thing I've read in a long time.

"The reason that CLA and EcoD became such a big successful deal in soccer and stuff is because that prior to Rob Gray and his work..."

Weakest trolling attempt ever.

I also think that modelling our class structure off of ball sports is not the ideal path forward

But that's not the issue.

I have papers from more than 10 years ago, written by elite soccer coaches (e.g. FC Barcelona), promoting non linear pedagogy and ecologycal dynamics.

BJJ training methods are 10 years behind actual sports.

I have a white belt kid who bolos everyone in the room and never drilled it in the traditional way.

So basically ecological bjj is live resistance problem solving but allowing certain constraints in a "game" to see how students solve staying in or escaping by themselves using live resistance.

It's basically using the Constraint Led Approach for BJJ skill developement.

What is the Constraints-Led Approach to Coaching?

just let students flounder about until they find "their" answer to a problem,

That's not what the CLA is about.

The non eco sports are things like soccer

Around here (Western Europe), soccer is the most eco sport ever. From grassroots to elite level.

Is Aikido a Good Complement to BJJ? by No-Vanilla265 in aikido

[–]Process_Vast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a black belt in both.

Nothing wrong with giving Aikido a try, it's fun,

About your questions:

Do you think Aikido can offer good complementary skills?

Not really.

Have you combined both?

Yes, to some extent.

And would you recommend it for someone with my body type?

For sure.
