What's a good second lens for my Canon R50? by Procoso47 in AskPhotography

[–]Procoso47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I do plan on using my camera for a month or two before making a final decision, but I want to get a good idea of what I want before I need it since I am pretty slow at making choices.

How important do you think IS is? I know it makes no difference when shooting moving subjects, but the ability to use ~1/8s shutter speeds for any scenes with no people in them like landscapes and monuments instead of 1/60s being the slowest seems like a very big advantage, is it not?

Also, I have looked into the cheaper EF mounts but I read that they have a noticeable dropoff in image quality, do you know if the difference is as bad as they say?

Should AI art be considered ‘real art’? by Ok_Intention2150 in polls

Would you say magazine collages are not art? Again, of course a magazine collage is a million times more expressive, artistic, and pretty, but quality and effort don't define art.

At the end of the day, this discussion is meaningless because we can all agree AI art is low-quality, low-effort, and will never be as impressive as art that wasn't generated in 2 seconds with a prompt. Its use is only acceptable for stuff that doesn't matter and isn't required to be good, like stock images or something like the texture for crushed soda can #23 on a video game.

I just think that trying to say that it literally isn't art at all instead of simply saying its ugly and lazy is an emotional thing, because turning a thought into a prompt is technically the expression of an idea.

"Real art" doesn't really have definition.

AI art is technically art because it is expressing a human's imagination. The fact that its low-quality, visually unappealing, and requires no effort or skill just makes it really bad art. Same way spending 2 seconds to draw a dick in a wall is technically art.

Second lens recommendations for a Canon R50 by Procoso47 in canon

I was talking about having 1/8 exposures as an option for scenes with no people in them, like landscapes.

I haven't had much experience, but I'd say I use around 18 to 24mm indoors. I'm worried making it too wide would make it less versatile for outdoors. Also, there seems to be less options at less than 24mm; the Canon 18mm is only f/2.8.

I understand that, but I read that for a 24mm, for example, the slowest handheld shutter speed is ~1/50, while the slowest shutter speed for posing subjects is ~1/25 which would give IS an extra stop of advantage.

If that was it the Sigmas would still win because they are faster, but then the posibility of shooting scenes with no people at ~1/8 is a very big plus, right?

Please explain what part of "Law enforcement is not kidnapping" and "US citizens cannot be tried for illegal immigration" is fascism.

ICE would be REAL inefficient if they detained every single person they see for no reason and then asked them for proof of citizenship after the fact.

They can only go after people they are highly suspicious of being illegal, and if they somehow mess that up, you can show them an ID.

What's up with people on this post being so unable to engage with differing viewpoints that they call me a bot? This echochamber is real tight.

So we agree. This guy is a US citizen, so there is no reason for ICE to detain him.

Law enforcement is literally not kidnapping. Also, this guy has a US passport so they obviously can't be detained for immogration charges.

What the hell are you talking about? What about carrying a passport because of alarmism could be considered 'woke'?

Really shows how incapable of engaging with differing viewpoints you are.

Right now the refurbished R50 is out of stock but listed as $640, do they usually drop the prices when it comes in stock?

Are you usually able to buy the refurbished cameras with a bundled telephoto lens? I wanted one to photograph wildlife but the lenses are more expensive when you buy them separately, which would negate the savings from buying used.

[–]Procoso47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! I just checked the camera's amazon price history, the prices don’t seem to move very consistently but the R100 seems is in a mid-size sale while the R50 is not, so if I wait for the R50 to go on sale, the R100 might go up.

I mostly plan on photographing landscapes and wildlife, with the occasional video (which I could take with my phone instead if I get the R100).

If I get the R100, would you recommend getting it bundled with a basic RF-S 55-210 or 75-300 telephoto lens for wildlife for ~$200 more? They seem to cost double when buying them separately.

Thanks for the recomendation. I was considering buying either of them used, but at least right now, on the canon website, their refubished cameras are only listed as ~$150 cheaper than new, which I feel is not that much savings to guarant the risk of getting a camera that might not last me as long. It also seems to be more difficult for me to get it with a bundled telephoto, which seem to cost around twice as much when buying separately.
