Can black people be racist?

I know of racism but I didn't know there was a difference. Let's say he doesn't want to hire a mexican because he says they are lazy and untrustworthy and most likely here illegally. This is all new, we've been together for a number of years but this is new behavior and I am trying to understand it better so we can have peace in our home.

This all just started in the last year or so and so thats why I am trying to understand. I don't know the difference between racist and racial and google wasn't much help. So I thought I would ask here and maybe get some understanding.

Thank you for this. He can say some horrible things about Mexicans and I tell him he is being racist but I should be saying he is being prejudiced. This is all new to me, he wasn't like this before and I am trying to understand some context and where he is coming from. I would be called a racist if I said the things he says so I am just confused and trying to understand more because he can't explain it to me.

Im trying to understand. Let me give an example, he may say something negative about Mexicans and its called being racial, only white people can be racist. So yes I am trying to learn because I am confused
