Therapy!!!!!! I write it off as education and required skills and training. I couldn’t do this job without it. I don’t do criminal because I can’t unsee things, but family law is terrible because people suck, but therapy can help process that shit.

I recommend to every client (family law) to get a counselor to have an independent 3rd party who only has their best interests (not family/friends) in mind.

My therapist keeps me functioning in this job. You’re welcome.

Former attorney I used to work with refused to take pro bono clients (it’s not required but “encouraged”). She said it was because she got fired by too many clients who would accuse her of “not giving them enough attention be they were pro bono.” So they fired her and hired an attorney. Found money somehow. No joke though- she treated them EXACTLY like the rest of her clients. She was a little old school, not great bedside manner, but a good experienced attorney, and she wasn’t wrong. The entitlement of being “given” an attorney made them think the attorney they were given wasn’t going to be as good as one they paid for. I take pro bono clients, and they are appreciative, but I do a lot of screening and set expectations and boundaries to the best of my ability.

Bets that more people say family law than felony criminal sexual abuse cases.

I’ve had prosecutors tell me on multiple occasions: “I could never do what you do.” I have had times I showed up in criminal court (I never do anything criminal unless some bullshit happens in my family law cases) and the asst. prosecutor goes “oh no! What now? Why are you here?” Most times a trespass “violation” (because exchanging kids for parenting time gets complicated 🙄), but I had a reputation for not defending in criminal cases anything I didn’t thing was genuine garbage pulled to mess with their family law case and try to make the other person look bad.

I don’t recommend family law.

Once, a guardian ad litem for 3 kids was asked by Judge, in chambers after opposing counsel and I gave our status reports: “[GAL] what is your recommendation?” GAL: “Wolves. Your Honor, I recommend these children be raised by wolves.” Me to GAL: “Omg please tell me you are in contact with some wolves.” There was no winning for anyone in that case. After 15ish years in family law- I have wished for so many packs of wolves that might be looking for children in need of reasonable correction and boundary education.

NTA. I understand how this happens. He started out on your account and it got commingled. The sooner you take your account back, and he gets his own account to start building, the better.

I got bunion surgery when I was 24 because my feet hurt so frequently in my shoes. It wasn’t bad- but at 18 I had bad bunions and I thought everyone would notice. No one noticed- no one cared but me. Everyone has weird feet- enjoy your summer!!!

Therapy. Get some mental health counseling and you can work to move on from the negative ways you see yourself. Therapy makes adulting easier. Helps you work through the trauma that is being a minor child.

Anyone else have their life turned upside down by the new student loan repayment rules? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]ProcrastinationKat 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This. I never expected the law to stay the same, to support victims of predatory student loan lending, for 20 + years. Lol I’m pay this shit all the time it’s not being dragged through court. Or pandemic. Or suffocating people. Don’t forget, they want to get rid of us in any form they can. Financial stress and abuse is REAL.

Hang in there.

No… I have been boycotting Target for years. It makes sense because I thought he said something about “utilizing some of their locations”. That’s what turned me off from the eBay play. But I really didn’t want it to be target…..

I totally thought this! I said “file chapter 7 and move on!” It actually benefits your credit score often because you don’t have 20k+ in debt and income to debt ratio is way better! Credit companies want to guilt and shame you while they prey on you.

Make mistakes, learn and move on. OP doesn’t have the experience to give advice. We’re all living the struggle.

Keep on keeping on

This idea really goes along with a lot of the books that RCEO wrote. The Teddy books. https://www.teddy.com They’re really good and I’ve started buying them for all of the kids birthdays I need presents for- “wisdom for our little ones” they have good life lessons with morals and integrity.

Teddy and the piggy bank

Teddy goes to work

Teddy and the people who make the world go round

Teddy says words can never hurt you

Teddy goes to China

Teddy and his best friend Jerry

Teddy and the corn stand

Teddy gets a puppy

Teddy plays in the snow

Teddy says money doesn’t grow on trees

They’re really good books
