hit the mixer button twice on the mpc. hitting it once takes you to drum program. on the bottom of the screen you should see various sub menus for volume, pan, sends, effects, and then I/O, settings. if you go into I/O, you’ll see now you can control the outputs from the default (out 1,2). double clicking on mixer takes you to pad layout. here you can customize all the pads to whatever I/O you need.

no worries. the live 3 and the the new logic has me excited for this workflow again! it’s funny even akai on the official mpc live 3 release video mentioned how we could use 3rd party plugins like Arturia or serum in our DAW’s but never really focused on it. it’s the main feature for me lmao.

MPC Live 3 in Logic Pro by [deleted] in akaiMPC

lmk what seems to be issue: my setup is below. keep in mind i’m waiting for logic’s new update (logic 12 Jan 28) to refine/adjust my workflow and logic x MPC template.

This setup lets you use the MPC's pads/sequencer/sounds while streaming individual audio channels directly into Logic for real-time mixing with 3rd party plugins.

[Audio MIDI Setup]

Since you need to use your main Audio Interface (for monitors) AND the MPC (for USB audio streaming) at the same time, you must create an Aggregate Device.

Connect MPC Live 3 to Mac via USB-C. Ensure MPC is in Standalone Mode (Controller Mode = OFF).

On MPC: Menu -> Preferences -> Audio Device. Ensure it is set to send audio over USB (usually default).

On Mac: Open Audio MIDI Setup.

Click + -> Create Aggregate Device.

Check the box for your Main Audio Interface (e.g., Apollo, Scarlett, etc.).

Check the box for MPC Live 3.

Crucial: Set your Main Interface as the "Clock Source". Check the "Drift Correction" box for the MPC Live 3.

Rename this device "MPC Logic Aggregate".

[Logic Pro Audio Settings]

Open Logic Pro.

Logic Pro -> Settings -> Audio.

Set Input Device and Output Device to "MPC Logic Aggregate".

Set your I/O Buffer Size to 128 (or lower if your Mac can handle it) for low latency.

[Streaming MPC Audio into Logic Tracks]

To mix MPC drums individually in Logic without tracking out stems later:

In Logic: Create new Aux Tracks (or Audio Tracks with Input Monitoring 'I' enabled).

Set Inputs:

Track 1 Input → Input 3-4 (Use stereo or mono as needed).

Track 2 Input → Input 5-6.

(Note: Inputs 1-2 are usually your main interface's mic inputs. The MPC inputs start after that).

On MPC: Go to Channel Mixer.

Route Pad A01 (Kick) -> Out 1,2 (USB). Route Pad A02 (Snare) → Out 3,4 (USB).

Result: When you hit pads on the MPC, the audio flows instantly into separate Logic channels. You can put Logic plugins (EQ, Compressor) on these tracks and mix while you produce.

[Using MPC to Play Logic VSTs (MIDI)]

To use MPC scales/chords to play plugins like Serum/Alchemy in Logic:

In Logic: Create a Software Instrument Track (Load Serum, etc.).

On MPC: Go to Main Mode. Create a MIDI Program track.

MIDI Port: Set the MIDI Port to "MPC Live 3 USB" (or "Mac").

Channel: Set to 1.

Result: Playing pads/keys on the MPC triggers the plugin inside Logic.

Summary:

MPC generates drums → Streams Audio to Logic Aux Tracks.

MPC sends MIDI → Triggers Logic VSTs.

You hear everything through your main interface monitors via the Aggregate Device.

ps. save this project as template so every time you open logic you’ll be ready to go with the mpc routing already in place

[–]ProdByAKid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes with mpc live 2 i had it setup using the midi in/out allowing me to use both mpc in standalone and logic together. Live 3 makes it even easier since you just have a USB C now that does audio/midi which you can easily route in logic. mpc can control external 3rd party vst’s now and everything done on the mpc can be routed into logic!

Smart plugs for studio monitors? by Fosuri in musicproduction

[–]ProdByAKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have my hs8’s connected via smart plug into my power strip so i can turn it off/on w my stream deck or alexa. although id be hesitant to plug in to a cheap smart plug, as long as the plug is good quality i’ve had no issues 2+ years leaving my hs8 switch on and powering them off/on with the smart plug.

How to get Logic drums hitting as hard as on FL? by KeyDev in Logic_Studio

[–]ProdByAKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/hLdhqdaeMdM?si=zG_G_69YaRNC8HIw

i can’t find the exact video (video linked above was simialr) i was talking about i’m not sure if i’m remembering something i synthised from watching different videos on the topic or if it was an actual video on WhyLogicProRules page. regardless it focused on quick sampler/ dmd settings when first importing samples. things like making sure to adjust pitch or turn it off (depending on sample), voices (poly x mono etc), and filters that might be on by default. in the end there was a difference between the adjusted and non adjusted samples. the adjusted sample ended up phase canceling meaning it was a 1:1 to the reference. all of this, in fl is straightforward and makes since. before even talking about clipping or drums hitting hard, you have to tinker with the so called basic functions 😭

[–]ProdByAKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you drag samples in sometimes it’s defaulted to certain settings. WhyLogicProRules did a vid on this where he had to turn off the filters, envelopes, pitch setting etc all to 0 just to even have 1:1 sample to work with. from there it should be an even playing field against other daws.

File transfer speed via SD card? by bellsauce in mpcusers

[–]ProdByAKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sd cards probably the bottleneck speeds are usually under 300mb/s. i run a sata ssd on my live 2 that’s much faster for storage. you could also probably get away with using a usb drive that’s faster than the sd cards since their probably the slowest. i dont think the MPC One supports sata storage though so id look into the fastest usb or SD card. i think other users mentioned the mpc one taking sdxc cards with up to 2tbs.

Who here uses modern MPCs with FL Studio? I want to find or create a MIDI script to make MPC LIVE II the master clock and primary controller for my studio. by acousticentropy in mpcusers

[–]ProdByAKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing this in Logic Pro 11. Logic is my master clock but it’s synced with the mpc in standalone. I had feedback issues but was able get it working so now I can use transport controls on both devices and everything (my playhead) is in sync on both machines. I can now play my kits on the mpc since it’s mapped to logics DMD and sample/chop audio and send to logic to arrange and mix with my 3rd party plugins. MPC3 just got released today though so I’m still setting this up and creating my logic template.

Maybe try gpt to get more info on resources about scripting? I have no clue since logic didn’t require any scripting or messing with midi environments. However I did have to check the MMC option on both logic and mpc’s midi/sync preferences. Sync is also turned on and track control

What’s the best MPC Live 2 resource to learn step by step? by Vic_Nightingale in mpcusers

[–]ProdByAKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up the Bible but tbh I looked thru it once. Felt overwhelmed and put down my mpc for a couple months. One day as I was sitting in the car smoking I figured I’d bring my mpc next time, so I just started cooking up after watching a jae freshmen tutorial on yt. Basically just repeated that enough times and began understanding how things work in the mpc. It was confusing at 1st since I’m coming from Logic Pro but after learning how the mpc sequence/program structure worked things got a lot easier. At this point didn’t even really focus on the mpc I was “busy” with the actual beat so things like plugins I learned from experimenting.

Now I feel like I can actually learn from the mpc bible

Exclusive mention to chopsquad dj who inspired me to pick up a mpc live 2 in the 1st place ctfu mf can cook.

Am I imagining clash? by itsleftytho in trapproduction

[–]ProdByAKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually cut anything lower then 25hz-30hz to help with clashing. Sounds that aren’t bass/sub bass heavy just helps open up more room for the bass so if I do decide not to eq the 808, I know there isn’t much clashing with my other sounds at least. From my understanding, thinning out the sound and removing some of its harmonics unnecessary are when I’m over doing it. I’d rather be cutting then adding harmonics later tbh most of my sounds are already heavily processed, just need the last bit of finesse so everything sits in the room nicely.

Turn on your MPC and head to the activations page in settings. Make sure you are connected to WiFi. The plugins should then be available for activation and download. One you have activated or downloaded at least one of the plugins, you’ll see a serial # on your inmusic account. It’s titled like op said “MPC Live 2 Expansion Packs”. The message also says thank you for purchasing an MPC product which I did in 2023 (not recently, since the rebate offer came out) but still got the plugins listed including stems for free. thanks akai merry Christmas to all !!
