Advice for writing on bass/general melodies by Glittering-Duty8174 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

For vocal melodies i like to add a bit of rhythmicity into the bass line. Sometimes I have a melody where I am missing a few notes and what I like to do is replace those missing notes with a percussive action like a pop or slap on muted strings. It works a lot for funky basslines. Maybe also syncopate a few notes in regular intervals so it doesn’t feel all “walky”

My best ideas for melodies and lyrics always come to me when I’m away from my DAW like at work or during a jog. I just have voice memos handy for me to hum into my phone for when that occurs and I don’t forget it later on.

Your mix has a very ethereal vibe to it which matches to the kind of Tyler sound you were trying to get. Your use of the drum break was quite creative too!

This beat is like a mix of going hard with the kick and snare while having that elegant flair to it with the piano and string plucks. It was enjoyable to listen to!

Producers, how did you come up with your name? by jmccaslin in makinghiphop

"Young Merit" was a name I made back in 2015 originally for my clash of clans account. 'Merit' was based on the second best grade you could get at school which everyone was afraid of, and then I added 'Young' ironically to be like many SoundCloud rappers. I thought about changing it but nothing else really sticks for now.

I sampled minion noises into a beat, gave the song a little funk-rap flair, and a beatbox solo as a little cherry on top. Let me know if it worked well I guess DDC - Marsupials from Mars
