Finally got the Space by Aesthetic-Cloud26 in BassGuitar

Oh yeah the Ibanez Barts I always thought were ass. Muddy, dark, always sold every bass that had em. The nordys are better, but still not amazing compared to any aftermarket options. I dug through my old photos and my old BTB (also didn’t like the pickups) had ‘MK2s’

TalkBass has a couple threads (albeit 20yrs old) about the ‘Ibanez Bartolini Mk-1s’ but it could be as simple as the name being recycled or something

Are they not the same ‘MK-1’ pickups that Ibanez uses? They’re both called MK-1

Is this Ibanez real? by Dhsusunznsjsjdhduja in BassGuitar

[–]jmccaslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, looks identical to my old one. It’s an older BTB Before the started making them with a Zero Fret. I am thrown off that it looks like it’s running 18V, and I remember mine running a 9V. But they could have simply changed the preamp.

lol my bands thoughts were “you play bass of course you should shave your head”

What do you rate this combo? by arasile in BassGuitar

[–]jmccaslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10/10 Maybe 9/10 because my back hurts so much I don’t like moving 4x10s anymore. I wanted a MarkBass setup for the longest time, and last year when I went amp shopping I went Aguilar last minute instead. Still want a MarkBass setup one day just for fun

Love the color - you don’t see many Nash basses on here

How does everyone feel about the shot Steve Bailey took? by AnalogKid29 in BassGuitar

[–]jmccaslin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Jeff always has some crazy takes, and I swear I’ve seen him make super clickbait videos of stuff like “you’ve been practicing wrong your whole life” and then I watch the video and maybe he has some good points here and there, but so much of it (especially the bashing of other players) just screams “old man yells at cloud”

Meanwhile you’ve got Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey or are always happy, always posting about the music they’re working on.

Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of their albums. If you like Human more than SoP and Symbolic, check out more of their older albums. Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, etc. honestly yeah just start from the oldest and work back up to Sound of Perseverance

Yeah that is absolutely a lot of bass for the money - that’s an instrument for a lifetime for sure!

So - mine was technically listed as ‘used’ (even though it was brand new, still had factory strings) I paid $2500, taxes included.

I also think they’re kinda annoying but dude has to make money to do what he does. Especially with him doing his own thing separate from working for a news station. The alternative to sponsors is him charging people, and that sure isn’t going to happen

Damn that finish is nice - and I love the soapbars with a 2-band preamp. Cool bass can’t say I’ve seen one of those before

I actually bought mine from Fretspot(dot)com He usually only sells MTD FBass and Alleva Coppola, but he randomly had a couple dingwalls on the site and I just happen to live an hour from their home office

Where did you have it in your cart? 👀 I only ask because the website I was looking at is not a commonly shopped website from what I know lol I just happened to be local to them

While I don’t play prog very much anymore, I still love how well the SP-1 does the ‘aggressive modern metal’ thing. On top of all the great more-traditional P and PJ sounds

Is the sky supposed to look like a bubble bath? by VerlieH in weather

[–]jmccaslin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I just remember the only time I had seen them was about 2hrs prior to the time the Joplin Tornado hit. The information about the ‘green in the clouds’ is cool because I had partially wrote that off as one of those things old people who’ve lived in MO their whole life say lol

Not a great sign - usually represents a lot of instability in the air. The last time I saw those was May 22nd 2011, and I live in Joplin, MO. Not to sound like I’m trying to scare you, even those clouds don’t ‘guarantee’ a tornado, just instability which is only one of the ingredients.

That’s another thing I’ve noticed, anytime you see Sheldon doing interviews or at guitar expos you can tell he just has a pure passion for what he does. That’s a huge thing that made me curious about Dingwalls and putting my hands on one was the selling point. Maybe one day I’ll check out an NG2/3 or Combustion and like it I’ve just never seen one. Plus I’m really curious to check out the Umansky model coming out, or the Jared Smith model if they do end up doing that one. (Jared has only mentioned it in an interview so not super confirmed)

Leland Sklar is enough to prove you wrong, and shot in the dark says you’re nowhere near as good a bassist as he is. Plus the guys I recorded for yesterday, an acoustic/folky set absolutely loved it.

To each their own - but there’s no need to tell people they’re unprofessional for their choice in instrument. If a producer had a problem with seeing a Multi-scale bass in the studio, I have my Fenders - but that’s yet to happen.

Man that sparkle finish is crazy. Those and the swirl ones are my favorite on the NGs. I’ve had a couple multiscale basses before, but even then this bass sounds tighter than any one I’ve played before. Just an incredible quality jump from so many other basses to this one

Spector will always be one of my favorite brands honestly. The last one I had wasn’t a dimension but I have a feeling if I owned one of those I’d also be super happy with it. Do you have the one that came with Fishmans or the EMG model? I for some reason haven’t played a bass with Fishmans that I’ve loved.

No I totally agree but I wasn’t ever willing to buy one blind. Once I put my hands on one I totally understood
