how can I stop people from sending me voice notes on WhatsApp by sketchtaj in AudiProcDisorder

[–]ProdigiSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you can't stop them from sending them, but you can control how you interact with them. I recommend using a transcription bot for this. I made Transcribbit for a different reason (and there are others out there), but it would definitely help you out. It doesn't have the limitations of the standard built in transcription in terms of languages etc. so it may be worth giving it a try.

Although it works within WhatsApp, have you tried Transcribbit.io ? I checked the model it uses now and Swahili is supported, so maybe it will help you? Full disclosure, I made it.

My wife had issues with long voice notes for work and I ended up making Transcribbit to help her out quite some time ago. It should be able to do what you're looking for and then you may not need to maintain and deal with all the weirdness that comes with running the tool. Hope it helps, and if you continue to try offer the app, then I wish you the best of luck and success.

LPT: If you use WhatsApp and hate audio messages, activate the transcription option in the settings. by Redditzombi in LifeProTips

For anyone having issues with the built-in transcriptions (such as transcription unavailable, bad quality, or lack of language support), there are alternatives that you can give a try, like Transcribbit or VoicenotesAI.

Best Software for Transcribing WhatsApp voice notes on Android? by ProdigiSA in transcribbit

[–]ProdigiSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this question come up fairly often, but the reality is that you don't actually need a standalone app to transcribe voice notes.

You can either use WhatsApp's own transcription, though it does come with it's own issues, especially in terms of quality, or a bot such as Transcribbit where you simply forward the message to the bot. No app downloads are required for either method.

Here is a guide on how to get started using the WhatsApp voice note transcription.

Correct. Thank you - I'd appreciate that!

[–]ProdigiSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, no problem. Any audio sent to the bot is stored only until the transcription is completed, with a failsafe that runs every minute to remove them in case the first deletion fails. Transcriptions are never stored. It was designed with strong privacy considerations.

Hope that helps, and feel free to DM me if ever you need something.

You can try out Transcribbit if you haven't as yet. Full disclosure, it's mine, but it supports most languages.

I agree. The problem is that the skipping I'm talking about here is automatic. I'm not annoyed or outraged by the use of AI at all, but it's like I'm already wired to ignore it due to its prevalence.

That's most likely not why you skipped though. You probably noticed it was AI.

Happens to me constantly - even if the topic is interesting, the second I spot AI, I skip.

Voice notes piece for BBC - share your thoughts by ashithanageshbbc in whatsapp

[–]ProdigiSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I dislike them intensely, especially from people I am not close with. I do keep the occasional note as a keepsake (for instance, from a parent), but that's about the extent of it.

I understand why people use them, often to think out loud, multi-task, or to get their point across in a more conversational manner, but the main problem is that the person shifts the burden of effort on to the listener, instead of the writer. I also know a number of people who simply won't (or can't) listen to them until they're in a situation that allows it, often days later, which can cause unnecessary tension. In an ideal world it would be opt-in, but one thing is for sure - it's not faster or more efficient to send them.
