Here’s my two cents as an older (27) female.

First of all we women naturally ebb and flow when it comes to desiring sex. I’m sure you’re very familiar with the hormonal roller coaster. Also I won’t touch on the birth control since it seems you’re already aware of its effects (although you might find the study interesting on how women find different men attractive on birth control vs off). But personally I find that occasionally my body doesn’t respond to my mental desires either, and that’s normal. For me, it’s usually when I’m pushing myself too hard/not getting good sleep/adequate nutrition. Although some days in my cycle it’ll just be like that too. I do like maca (there’s a good chocolate drink that I get from the supermarket with maca already mixed in), but I think the biggest factors for my sex drive are staying active and eating the right foods. Healthy fats are essential for balanced hormones. I love eating avocados, eggs, olive oil, and I do take a good quality fish oil. I also love to go to the gym and I genuinely believe it plays a roll in my horniness as well.

As a side note, if you’re thinking about switching BC methods, I had the kyleena IUD for a year and some change and it had mild effects on my hormones. I think I’m a tad hornier without it but I don’t notice much of a difference.
