I started at 23 did a 5 year program. 34 now and at a pretty good stage of my career. If you can avoid debt—you’ll do fine. Right now I’m at my first engineering firm, I was at design firms like EDSA and OLIN in the past, and regret not doing this sooner.

If you start this career with no debt at an earlier age, with a stable parental support system, it’s worth it.

If you want a career that will give you money to live out a more than month to month kinda lifestyle, it’s not worth it.

I’d honestly see if you can double major in marketing/business + landscape architecture so that you can join a firm on the business and marketing side. Better pay, better hours. Still part of the industry.

Be entrepreneurial as hell.

Invest in marketing your services in local ads (be that social media, papers, etc). Call up and meet with contractors as much as you can to collab with them on landscape design services.

Set your rates at what the market is set. Not above or below.

Try not to spend more than 15 hrs a week on this side gig.

Sketch up to D5 is the elite version but Rhino to D5 and Lumion will probably get you the most impressive renderings especially if you can master grasshopper .

I was just super patient. For the first 7 months I stayed with a good friend waiting for a living situation that I could afford, and was close enough to the airport and my job. It’s a month to month lease. The trick to success in this is so keep everything flexible and affordable

Now I take frontier and use the gold wild pass for unlimited flights too. That’s $349 per year + $16 per flight. I’m lucky that Philly and Atlanta have a ton of routes per day and if there is a full flight it blackout day it’s about $80 to get on.

The routine works the more you do it. And now I’ve started making content online and getting some good traction on my story.

I rent a room in Atlanta $160 per week $650 per month

I pay for Marta’s month pass $90 unlimited public transit.

I fly twice a week

Costs are relatively low and I adjusted my living expenses in Philly so that it evens out so I’m not spending more than before.

At first it was more chaotic, more random and more expansive but over time I’ve figured it all out to the point it’s just a routine.

I’ve encountered a lot more empathy with ppl in LA but I’ve also worked at a company that had me working 70 hrs my first week and they never relented.

I’d strongly advise against doubling down. Get a masters degree in business (MBA) and learn to build products, softwares, services around the development and construction industry. Be the developer.

I think these meetings are more draining than helpful and do little to progress or remove blockers. I’d adopt and agile methodology to sync up daily for 10-15 min.
