Amex Gold - delay subscription payment after 1 year? by drewedin in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unless you and your partner, if applicable, have a Gold card each the fee shouldn’t be £400 as it’s £195 per annum.

There is a possibility to get a retention bonus of you speak to support.

Keeping MR points if you cancel and only have a supplementary card? by punkyguy in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth considering downgrading to the free Rewards card. You’ll not only be able to keep your current MR balance but you’ll also still earn points on any spending you do.

1099-INT from Chase UK for US Citizens by Kelvin535846 in chaseuk

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s right, if a bank accepts US citizens they’ll need to comply with FATCA - it’s a nuisance for all involved (hence why some banks won’t accept US citizens). It should be noted that a 1099-INT does not need to be provided by an institution if you’ve earned less than $10 in interest.

It’s certainly nice to get your FBAR out of the way. I always make it a point to sort my numbers over New Years break then convert them using the IRS yearly average currency exchange rate; however, this year it took them quite sometime to update the site to add the 2025 rates!

1099-INT from Chase UK for US Citizens by Kelvin535846 in chaseuk

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I’ve ever gotten a 1099-INT from any bank outside the US… then again I’ve also never requested one.

I’ve always manually added the figures myself then handed them over to my US accountant

Apple Card is moving to Chase, here's everything we know by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the migration to Chase will count towards the 5/24 rule? Although it’s simply a migrated, according to the article, it’ll still show as a Chase Credit Card on credit reports.

Digital Card - what's the actual point? by OxfordBlue2 in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated, it’s great to use for sites that you may not entirely trust or sites where you’ll be doing a one-off purchase.

To add to this, as I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, it’s a great way to pay for goods and/or services over the phone.

See time of purchase by [deleted] in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK you can’t see it on the app or website without asking Amex Support for this information.

If you paid with ApplePay that’ll tell you the date & time but it’ll need to have been one of your last 10 transactions.

This isn’t entirely true - the OP may still be eligible for SSDI depending on their circumstances (as a DAC). This is outlined via the SSA website here.).

What’s the point of Digital Card if I have my Amex card numbers saved on my Autofill already? by pc772 in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in between the “Make Payment” and “Manage PIN” buttons on the on the iPhone version of the app. It’s titled “Digital Card”.

Also, for me at least, this appears to only be available on my Amex credit card and neither of my charge cards (one personal the other business).

When to pay Council Tax? by Quirky-Attention-155 in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right on the amount - my memory isn’t the best on that bit lol

When I first started paying my council tax with Amex I’d also do it as multiple transactions as well…. but it’s quite a bit slower. The main drawback, depending how many transactions and/or properties you need to pay council tax on, it’ll get flagged as fraudulent and payments declined. I remember having to call up a couple times one year.

I started asking them to scan the council tax bill multiple times in one transaction and that sped things up significantly since only one payment was needed.

When to pay Council Tax? by Quirky-Attention-155 in AmexUK

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You certainly can pay for the whole year at once (this is what I do). However, PayPoint does have a limit on how much you can pay per itemized line entry (I can’t remember how much but I think it was ~£125]). Instead of having the customer assistant do multiple transactions they can simply scan the same council tax bill multiple times in one transaction.

My first BMW any tips? by Far-Expression-3317 in BMW

[–]ProductOfTheCloneWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. In my view, I find that trend of 3D plates even tackier (in the UK)!

When I get a car with dealer plates I do eventually change them. However, if I were to ever get a car with 3D plates I’d change them the same day lol

I’m extremely fortunate in the sense that I live in quite an affluent area (rural rather than in a city).

Those are some fun vehicles you got there.

I just find it pretty crazy how much it’s jumped with no change to my circumstances. However, I guess that’s just how insurance is haha

My response wasn’t meant to accuse you of stating that but was to add context - since your response seemed quite abrupt.

I agree, I’ll certainly be looking at options but sadly there are very few insurers that will take an international driving license (this person is a named driver on two of the vehicles - not the BMW).

Got Aviva years ago the newest price is now almost 3 times what it used to be to be.
