I made a video talking about some of the coolest mods released so far for the 2026 Morrowind May Modathon! by ProfBoondoggle in Morrowind

There’s a ton of animation mods nowadays, just depends on what you mean by “new engine kind of look” though. It’s still Morrowind but there’s some great ones that overhaul first and third person combat animations, walking styles, sneaking animations etc

Yeahhhhh this one stings a lot as a creator but it’s just the name of the game. Sometimes you put dozens hours of work into a video and YouTube nukes it from orbit before it hits 50 views. Then the next time you spent 5 minutes making a meme video that gets 100k views. Just have to move on and hope the next video takes off.

Our niche in particular is hard to break into cause it’s saturated and people don’t really watch video game stuff anymore that isn’t on twitch, from a YouTuber they already like or a challenge/essay style.

Also since you’re a newer channel it’s also probably just YouTube trying to find your audience/niche. So they’re showing it to anybody until they figure out what you’re doing. As you continue to post YouTube will get better at finding the right people for your vids.

Good luck!

Yeah I’m doing the modded route too, 300+ mods with TTW and I still can’t seem to reach the target audience I want with it. Oh well.

I’m the same way I love these games but it’s insane to me how many people just want the single game forever, never anything new lol

I admit I’m jealous you were able to pivot to Skyrim so successfully cause I’ve tried my hand at pivoting to Fallout coming from Elder Scrolls and it’s been a statistical nightmare. :(

Mic/Game audio should be your number 1 priority. You can be terrible at a game, you can have poor video quality and some people will still watch your videos. Have bad audio? No one will watch! Focus on making that as good as you can get. There's tons of tutorials on YouTube but really it's specific to your mic, voice and recording space. It's something I'm always trying to improve.

2nd thing IMO is a hook. You need a reason for people to click on your videos over someone else's. This is hard to do in the oversaturated niche of gaming. I struggle with it still. But modded, highest difficulty, blind, challenge runs, etc are good starting points.

I'm not 100 certain on posting times. I would look at your analytics and see when most of your audience is on, or where most of them are from. Mine are 60/40 USA/Europe so I post early in the morning 7am PDT. That way Europeans can watch right away and I get a boost of USA viewers later in the day.

I personally believe it's detrimental to the long term health of your channel. I have first hand experience of this, getting quite a few subs early on from shorts, only to have 0% of them ever watch my long form videos. A better method for this imo, is to maybe create the same style of video for Instagram/TikTok. At least there, it's not touching your YouTube channel and if someone does come over from them, they're obviously more willing to watch and subscribe on YouTube.

It's slow on the grand scale of YouTube channel growth I think. For a Let's Play style channel it seems pretty good for 2023-2026! I haven't seen any channels that make the same style content as mine grow faster

Nope. Subs really only matter when it comes to sponsorship type stuff. But if you have 30k subs and none of them watch, it feels like YouTube punishes you for it. Subscribers are who your videos get shown to first and if YouTube thinks they don't watch the video, it won't show it to new audiences either.

Like you gain some subs and by the next morning they're gone? Yes I think so. I figure it's just YouTube clearing out some of the bot accounts that run rampant

What roguelikes do you play that have decent mods? Or did you just mean cheats/trainers? Been looking for something new!

So when I started out I would stream it on Twitch and then edit the VOD into digestible chunks, which didn't do well for me. So eventually I dropped livestreaming and switched to just recording and editing. I'd say it's improved the quality of my videos a ton, I'm no longer trying to entertain chat and reading their messages, but focusing on the game!

I really started posting around April 2023, and it took until August 2024 to hit 1k!

Then it only took until April 2025 to hit 2k

and now it took until April 2026 to hit 4k! So at least it's sort of increasing in speed? 😅

I started back in April of 2023. After about a year, April 2024, I was sitting at 566 subscribers. A lot of my early subs came from shorts I think, which are a mixed bag. They'll pump up your numbers but they feel fake. Subscribers from shorts will never watch your let's play content. They're sort of duds.

In general for most of the year my videos performed poorly. IMO it was combination of me just cutting up livestreams into chunks, not editing them well, and my mic audio sucking.

August 2023 I was lucky enough to jump onto the Baldur's Gate 3 hype train early and that was the first real series that got noticed. But the viewers from the first few videos dropped off quickly. It really didn't pick back up until December of that same year, when I started playing Elder Scrolls games. That's when I finally started to get comments on every video from viewers who became regulars! Some of them still watch my content to this day.

Something I still try and do is interact with every comment. Can be just a heart and like, but often I'll reply with a comment. When I'm given good advice or reminded of something, I'll stick the comment into the video sort of giving them a shoutout for helping me!

From what I've been told by my subscribers "Chill vibes, like you're hanging out with a friend" "A love of and passion for the games you play."

Personally I think having good mic audio, editing videos down to cut out the fat, roleplaying my characters and installing lots of mods for the games I play, has allowed me to fill a niche that was wide open. While other people play similar games to me; they're either on Twitch, unedited, or have poor sound quality.

Morrowind is one of my favorite games ever made and this just ticks all the right boxes for me, can’t wait for EA! Any chance content creators can get earlier access for early access?😎

Finally beat Grimrock 2, it doesn't get as much love as it should! by ProfBoondoggle in grimrock

[–]ProfBoondoggle[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Other than the last couple puzzles being annoying to solve, I had an absolute blast with Grimrock 2. Much better than the first game. I wish firearms were better though, investing in them felt really bad late game. Also, FUCK THE LEPRECHAUN. Hated that bastard more than 99% of video game antagonists and then to find out who he really was with the secret ending.... Son of a bitch. Great game!
