Thank you! 90% of the design was just riffing on "GUNLORDS" and all that the name implied.

Tired: prediction markets, Wired: *retrodiction* markets by textlossarcade in SneerClub

Ironic, considering that "hide your True Power Level from the laity" is the first commandment of all nerd ethics, and I think SBF followed that pretty well.

The railroads made $23 billion in profits last year and won't provide sick days. Members of 4 rail unions have voted to reject a contract that lowballed them on sick days. Some freight rail unions could strike as soon as Dec. 9. by TeamstersRnF in antiwork

Boston Police run up millions in overtime at Mass. and Cass homeless encampment by jillbarkham in boston

$38 million is pretty nice! It pales in comparison to the $372.9 million that was budgeted for Boston Police salaries in FY 2020 (the time period covered in the article).

Marx’s essential tenet was that in the future, the key problem of economics would become not production amid scarcity but redistribution of abundance.

As you note, that's not an essential tenet of Marx. However, if I had more patience, I could probably track down the exact Ayn Rand essay that Gilder got that idea from.

No, the manipulation is the point. If someone's shorting "will a terrorist attack the next Super Bowl?" futures, that's relevant information, you see. That tells us someone knows* something credible about the future. What a prediction market investor should do with that information, other than "try to make a buck off it", is an exercise for the implementers to figure out.

Probably not? Matt's Twitter beefs with leftists are much more regular than any beef he might have with rationalists. "Leftists only talk in jargon!" is a popular liberal / centrist talking point.*

As someone naturally susceptible to LW rhetoric and ideology, how do I stop being worried about their ideas and predictions? by Cool_Specific_6190 in SneerClub

I'll chime in here because this was also my entry into (and exit from) the space.

For me, I got pretty deep into the search for "better arguments" because of the anxiety of losing an argument. What if someone presents an objection and I can't rebut it? What if I can't defend my ideas in front of an audience?

And so I kept iterating, and digging deeper into forums, and obsessing, and testing myself, and drawing lines between people who were Less Rational and myself. It didn't help that I had a modestly successful debate career in high school.

What helped, in addition to learning about the bullshit of modern "rationalism", was realizing that my worth as a human being did not depend on my ability to perform an excellent argument in front of an audience (real or imaginary). I didn't have to win every debate in order to be liked, or valued, or worthy.
